My daughter is 12 and I am caucasion and her father is african american / Indian, her hair is kinda curly, but not tight curl's, it's more poufy and fuzzy that anything but the feel and look is like caucasion hair. I used an Ogilve straightner in it last night but it's still really bushy. She's tired of using a flat iron on it to get it sleek and straight, is there another kind of product I could use to get it more straight. Thanks

One of my close friends has very curly hair (she's caucasian) and she uses african-american hair care products to make her hair more manageable. She doesn't straighten her hair, she lets it curl. She also does not wash it everyday. She will wash it once or twice a week with shampoo. During the rest of the week, she will wet her hair in the shower and massage conditioner into the ends of the hair (not near the scalp) and then rinse it out. She also lets her hair dry naturally as often as possible, so she won't have heat damage from the blow dryer.

this is a site she uses for product. Below is a link to haircare tips: http://www.treasuredlocks.com/blhacafa.html

also don't be afraid to go into a salon that specializes in african american hair care and speak to a stylist about the best way to care for your child's hair.

The best way to find the best products for your hair is to try them all. That would be pretty expensive but go over to a friends house and use some of her stuff. See how it works, and just keep trying new things. Hair may work with products from this company and not that company....it's all trial and error.

If I can suggest something, I would suggest you try a hot oil treatment....for a cheaper way to have great soft and silky hair with less frizzies, warm up some olive oil (regular cooking stuff) in the microwave and massage it into your hair while it is dry. Wrap it up in a warm towel from the drier and sit for an hour or so. Maybe give yourself a facial at the same time. Then get in the shower, and shampoo out all the oil (because water won't get the oil out--oil and water don't mix) and then condition your hair. Viola! Beautiful silky hair.

The most key thing to protecting your locks is to stay away from all heat. Yep, that means no hairdrier, no straightner, no curling iron either....It's very hard not to advert to these products but just try it for a week. Don't blow dry your hair for a week....try it. I know it's hard not to but if you stay away from things with heat such as blow driers, curling irons, straightners, etc....you will notice a HUGE change in the feel and look of your hair. It will be so much more healthy.

Straighten it ONE TIME BIG TIME.

Have her hair "rebonded" in a trusted salon. Try L'oreal X-Tenso (treatment). It takes a couple of hours and it may be a bit costly too, but it will most definitlely save you and your daughter all the hassle of taming her frizzy hair.

Good luck!

hi i straighten my hair everyday im a couple years older thoo . if her hairs pretty big then you have to get a good straightener . mine was $130 and works amazing for me . but my hair is also getting fried lol . if she wants to keep her wavy hair she would get a de-frizer or tamer .. you can get products for that. to help tame your hair . and if she wanted to have straight hair . my friends hair was really curly . and she uses a de-frizer product. but she uses a actual iron for clothes and puts a towel under her hairand that made it really straight . she just did that for a bit and now her hairs not as big . and she can straighten it everyday and it looks good . if you have any other questions you can add me on IM . im happy to help . my moms also a hair dresser . good luck :)
