Lets clear up a few misconceptions that are widely spread and easily seen in the answers here:
1) Rabbi does NOT mean teacher though that is functional definition of a Rabbi in modern society. What it actually means, and how it was used in the time of the Tempe is "Master'- from "Rav sheli"- "Greater than me"
2) In the time of the Temple there were VERY FEW Rabbis in since to become one required that
a) Knowledge of the Torah, Mishnah, Aggadah, Midrash, Sifrei, Sifri and Sod
b) Be acknowledged as a master of these subjects publicly
c) Have a large number of students that they taught (Typically in the hundreds- though in some cases their students numbered in the thousands such as with Rabbi Akiva.)
d) A Rabbi could only be appointed by the NAsi of the Sanhedrin in Jerusalem.

Yes, he was a teacher=rabbi. Many refer to him as rabbi in the Bible. He started teaching in the temple at the age of 12 yrs.

Sure. A Rabbi is a teacher and Jesus was a teacher.
John 3:2 this man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, "Rabbi, we know that You have come from God as a teacher; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him."

Yeah, but he was also an apostate. Saying Jesus was a rabbi is like saying Phillip Berg (the guy behind the now-famous "Kabbalah Center" organization) is a rabbi, in that that's how people view him, and he's a Jew, and some of the things he teaches may be Jewish, but he's not really deserving of the title.

Yes, Jesus was a "rabbi" because "rabbi" means "teacher" - therefore many of his followers did call him "rabbi".

Isn't there a verse in the Gospels where one of the apostles calls him Rabbi and he tells them not to?

In the strictest sense he was. Rabbi means teacher and he was the greatest teacher that ever lived.
