i went to U.K last year and as expected i saw damn clean roads, very less pollution (just on the roads), easier acces to all places in any city/town like train stations, bus stops, every small towns are well planned, no dirt and dust, well planned colonies with space for gardens in between, very peaceful neibhourhoods. i wish that would be possible in india especially in crowded cities like mumbai

Get more Capitalism into your country. When there's a profit and competition, then the people find solutions to bring superior products to the market.

Free markets.

As a veteran of the shipping industry, I know that India's import tariffs are terribly punitive - this is why you now see so much coming into the States from India and not much the other way around.

India's government is quickly reversing this stagnation and will soon open up its market to the world economy. As this occurs, you will see a rush to India by not just consumer products manufacturers, but makers of high-end environmental infrastructure (water aeration and air purification equipment, clean energy production, etc) that will clean up your country.

Exciting things... India will soon have the world's largest middle class which will demand exactly what your question addresses.

India is a very young country.

It has lots of draw backs but it has come a long way.

USA in particular, but even UK and the countries of Europe got there not by chance. People have worked very hard to get there.

It was always an individual efforts on the part of the individual with foresight, they took chances, some times they failed but still they were not deterred a bit, they just work harder with determination, mistakes were made and are still correcting them but they just work hard and harder to full fill their dreams only to come up with more dreams to full fill. Children took up the projects were parents gave their life trying to complete it but ultimately they show them completed on time and even under the budget, at lest some times.

In terms of land resource alone India has only 1/4 the resources of USA, and 3 + times the population of USA. The area itself was heavily populated since ancient times with over 750 Kingdoms. So over the years resources were depleted.

But nothing is impossible.

To-day we can have pure water to drink by using reverse-osmosis. I am in USA and all my water for cooking and drinking is treated using a simple equipment call reverse osmosis filter.

The big cities like Bombay already have strict air quality standards for automobile and factories, they must be enforce or tighten up, step at a time.

As far as Infrastructure goes it is just matter of good planning and getting most out of limited financial resources.

What can Indians do?

Set achievable goals, Plan and make them work, work hard, work harder, work more to full fill the set goals.

Rome was not built in a day.

It took even GOD six days to complete the Earth, but HE/SHE was so tiered that, needed seventh day off, and had to give one day a week off to every one, from there on.
That was Last Sunday you had your day of rest, to-day is Tuesday so get going, do not wait, do some thing, in few days it will be Sunday ( and soon), work very hard and enjoy the next Sunday.

hai, good question for the welfare of the country. The main requirement to have good water, roads, fresh air etc., is we should have good TOWN PLANNING from the government.
See for example old delhi and new delhi the problems in old places are plenty and very pathetic. but in new areas it is good. town planning ensures no traffic jams , good walking spaces , good water and electric cabling clean roads etc. this is the only best alternative GOOD TOWN PLANNING .

Sorry, live in USA and we want the same things. May be some better here but we have and make our own problems. You need to do it. I started working on a power plant in Sacramento in 2003 and SMUD just agreed to the deal. You can do the same. Want more information? go to CoolingEarth.org. contact us and request information. Would love to help build a solar power plant in India.

Every body realise that. Start a club or any organisation to educate the people to do something for that. Our strength is our mass : gather every body to spend the time for at least one hour per week is more then sufficient to develop our country. With in a year or so we can modify it properly.

Capitalism & Christianity.

Econmonic success comes from a free market economy and a sense of ethics. (Doesn't have to to Christianity just a wide spread ethical code of universal brotherhood)

Although the US & UK have lost much of the spirit that made them great, imagine how much gets fixed if one person in 10 believes the path to wealth is solving peoples problems.

It really is bone simple. Problems get solved when you reward and encouage problem solving.

For starters reduce your population by at least half, or better 2/3's, you have totally overrun the ability of the environment to replenish itself, and all the technology in the world won't help that. Good luck, you, your people and your country are going to need every bit of it you can get.

It is called taxation of the rich. That is all it takes, make the super wealthy give back to the community from what they have so greedily taken.
