I am looking to get a digital camera (this will not be my first). I am still confused as to how many mp I should be looking for. All I do with my pctures is upload them on the computer and sometimes send them to the drug store and make 3x5 copies. I still want good pics but I just want to make sure I don't buy more than I need. Also, what should be the minimum? Thanks!

Also, I have had Kodak cameras before and don't know if I should stick with Kodak or go to a different brand. Major factors for me are durability, appearance, and computer uploading ease. Any brand recommendations?

I'd say to get at least 6, just incase there's a picture that you would want to get printed larger, like 8x10. When I shoot sports I set my camera to 2 mp and print 5x7's all day long that look fantastic.

Megapixels aren't going to make your images any "better" or clearer, they will allow you the ability to make larger prints with the more megapixels that your camera has. Also, more megapixels means larger file sizes to store on your computer. I think most all cameras give you the ability to set the file priorities by shooting at a lower megapixel, shooting on basic, normal or fine JPEGs... I most always shoot on Fine and at the highest MP my camera will do.

So yeah, I'd say get at least 6mp, and there's a lot of options out there for you in that range. I recommend Canon for point-and-shoot pocket cameras and Nikon for DSLRs.

My recommendation would be for any of the Canon Powershots. My wife and I have two between us, different models, and they both are excellent. My parents have a Kodak point-and-shoot and I personally can't stand them. The picture quality is fine, it's the operation that drives me nuts.

5 MP is a very good size for photos, especially if you want to email them.....the detail quality is good at 5mp.

You can get an 7 or 8 MP pocket camera, and set the image size to 5 MP or medium. Thats what I would.

Try the Nikon S200

7 Mp or more... A camera with 8 MP may cost more. So atleast go for 7. Sony Cybershot cameras give excellent photos and you also get good software bundle along with them.

digital images on a screen look big at 640x480... printed they look good on a mobile phone... and thats it.

you ought to be looking at 5 to 8 MP, 5mp will give you a decent a4 print, 8mp A3. od at 8mp you can crop and still end up with a nice image... not a postcard.

buy a make like the Fuji 5600, or the panasonic lumix with a leica lens or samsung 10mp... DONT buy a chinese ripoff like fujiama, or cannoia...or Nicon... or whatever they call them.. they are without exception rubbish... and a total waste of money.

Nikon / Olympus / Cannon / Fuji / all good makes, and they wont break... but if they do, the company has honor and will fix them... the shanghai/kowloon camera company just ignore you...and laugh...

4 to 6 MP should be sufficient. I get excellent 8X10 prints from my Sony 6 MP. Anyway, I wouldn't go over 6.
Stay with Fuji, Canon, Nikon Panasonic and Sony.

well i have a 7.2 mp camra and i have it set to 5.5 so realy i have a 5.5 mp camra (with this setting ) and with 5.5 the picters are bigger than ill ever need they are esaly seat to my computers deck top wall paper and if i wanted to print them out they would be huge there is realy no need to get bigger than 5 or 5.5 but that is way more than u realy need if u will only want smail picters u could go down to 3 mp but i would not sigjest go that low because u cant get them much bigger if u want to get them bigger so i would say look for something in the range of 5 to 5.5 because that will be bigger than your normal need but not so big that u are wasting monny
jest a reminder mp (mega pixel) dose not help make better quilty picters they help u make bigger ones

5 to 7mp should be sufficient. Beware of digicams with 10 to 12mp. For a good review, read "The Pros & Cons of Pixel Packing" in the Nov. 2007 issue of Shutterbug Magazine or at shutterbug.com.
