Hi cats stop growing around about a year old. An adult cat should really only be fed two main meals a day with perhaps some nibble biscuits in between. A kitten up to this age are still growing and so need more food but must only be given small amounts at a time to stop gorging. So perhaps up to 6 or seven small amounts throughout the day. See the below pages for information regarding cat nutrution etc.

Look on the side of the kitten food you use. it will probably say 1/2-1 cup. I was over feeding my kittens, so I looked into it, and amazingly they only need about 1/2 a day as adults too.

As much as it wants to eat while it is still growing, and it should be on kitten food, not adult food. When it gets to be a year old, you should switch it to adult food. If the kitten becomes overweight, then you can change it from eating free choice, to eating three times per day. If you also feed canned food in addition to dry food, you can just feed the canned food once or twice per day, while giving the kitten free choice dry food.

I have a bowl of good quality cat biscuits down constantly for our two kittens as they feed ad lib. Cats are generally not greedy unless you encourage it. We also give them a bowl of kitten meat once a day, usually in the evening after they have come in for the night. We just refill the biscuits when they need it. You will soon see how much your kitten gets through daily and how much she will need in her bowl. Alot of people are against this, but i have spoken to two vets and numerous vet nurses and they all agreee this is the best way

I agree 4 times a day, little and often. Don't worry if kitten doesn't eat all of them, just as long as he/she eats at least two a day, its okay. Cats are good at regulating their food intake so don't be worried about over feeding. Unless kitty starts to put on considerable weight of course.

make sure you feed it kitten food, not adult cat food... they need the extra calories, nutrients which are provided in kitten foods... you can check the labels for feeding instructions.
i've always left food down for my cats because they tend to go back and forth to food during the day.

I have a six month old kitten I give him wet food (two level tablespoons) twice a day, and he has dry pellets that he eats throughout the day.
