you go to the local courthouse to get the certificate? What about when you officially get married in the courthouse, do you dress up for that? Do I have to wear a dress? what happens after?

Fellow NY'er here. I had to wait 24 hours to get married after the license. You can wear whatever you want. I wore jeans and a creme sweater, hubby wore button up shirt and jeans, and we got married at our home infront of our Christmas tree. When you get married in courthouse, you do not have to dress up if you don't want to. You wear what you want, it's still your day, and its your choice. Congrats.

no you don't have to.
the judge i spoke to about officiating mine said he's done them where ppl ran in on their lunch hour from work, or on the way home from a trip.
generally after you get your liscense you have to wait 24 hours before you can get married.
call your clerk of the peace or justice of the peace to be sure about the timing.
