my hubby and i are interested in buying a 2004-2005 model KIA SORENTO for our first "family car".
I was just wondering if people could let me in on personal experiences with these 4wd's
are they reliable? safe and just generally a good car or should i look around for something else???

Reliable, yes, Safe, yes, Popular, yes, Family Car, yes, Good used car, yes. The fact that they depreciate fast is in your favor since you are buying a 3 year old model for about 1/2 the new price. If you do your due diligence and have an independent mechanic throughly inspect the vehicle prior to purchase I'm sure you will be very happy to take the Sorento home with you if it checks out...you should do this with any used car you want to purchase that isn't one of the certified pre-owned models.

We have a 2005 Kia Sorrento and love it. It's never had any problems. They are beautiful inside and out, but keep in mind these might not have the best resale value like a Honda or Toyota will.

Edited to add that it fun to drive and very comfortable for our family of 4. It has plenty of space for groceries, etc.

Downside is gas mileage: I think it only gets maybe 18 miles to the gallon at most.

The resale on any KIA is not very good.

The 4wd version of this is a good buy.

The suspension in the front is pretty small - tiny parts.

If you travel rough roads - drive slowly.

VERY EXPENSIVE TO REPAIR, VERY UNRELIABLE AND ALL KIA VEHICLES HAVE NO RESALE VALUE.

Please keep away from KIA it is a dangerous car and easy to damage.
