Even among linguists, there is no agreed upon definition of both, there have been different models around and still are.
However:
You could sum the difference up in a simple way by stating than language is a subset of communication: all language is communication, but not all communication is language. Communication means, information is transported (the so-called transfer-model of communication); language means, meaning is conveyed.
If you turn your car key in the ignition, information is "transported" to the engine - that would be mechanical communication. Animals, for instance, are said to have communication systems, but not "language" in the way most linguists would define it.
Communication (as a general model) is unambiguous, whereas with language, a lot depends on the circumstances and context: the same utterance can be understood in different ways in different contexts.
If you´re interested, I´d recommend Richard van de Lagemaats TOK coursebook, which gives a very easy-to-grasp, non-complex introduction into language and communication.

Language is what we speak and we use language to communicate but communication is where you make a connection to another verbally, sign language, writing.

Simplistically, if I hit you on the head, I'm communicating to you that I am not happy with you. Likewise if I cry, you know I am unhappy. If I scowl at you, it should mean something. If you blow me a kiss, it also should mean something.
The above are all non-verbal communications - no language used.
