This is just a hypothetical. Consider Heaven and Hell your own interpretation of them, but still as a good place and a bad place, respectively. Personally, I'd rather serve in Heaven. That way I can be happy and be with those I love. What would you rather do, and why? If you choose to reign in Hell, how would you reign and what would be the benfits overall? Likewise with serving in Heaven.

Absolutely serve in Heaven...Why would I want to be in hell, even if I were to reign what would I have to reign over?...Pain, Torment? Terror? Eternal separation from God? Even being ruler in hell would not afford me any satisfaction. For me it's an obvious choice....

I think maybe I would go hang out in Limbo with all the unbaptized people and those of all the good people of other religions.

That way I can be at peace and actually enjoy myself

If I had to choose though between little fish in Heaven or Ruler of Hell....I would take Hell as I could make it a good place that would have blackjack, cuban cigars, good scotch and free cable for everyone

I'd rather be dirt....

But given those were the only options.... better to Reign in Hell.
I have a sadistic streak a mile wide
...and I do so love my schadenfreude.

The alternative? Heaven?

From Revelation :~
4:6 And before the throne there was a sea of glass like unto crystal: and in the midst of the throne, and round about the throne, were four beasts full of eyes before and behind.
4:7 And the first beast was like a lion, and the second beast like a calf, and the third beast had a face as a man, and the fourth beast was like a flying eagle.
4:8 And the four beasts had each of them six wings about him; and they were full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, LORD God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come.

... Now frankly, that strikes me as kinda freaky.

i'd particularly serve in heaven. in spite of each little thing, in heaven (whether via fact the quote is from Milton, i'm helpful you comprehend that Milton says that heaven and hell are greater or much less psychological constructs) it is all approximately maximum suitable love/actuality/justice/peace. it is not with regard to the self! yet i think in case you opt for it to be approximately then you definitely i can confirm why you will take the situation of power; i'd lots particularly be in heaven.

I hear all the hot chicks go to hell.I probably wouldn't know anyone in heaven. So many people that are religious even accuse each other of not having the right god etc. who would want to be with those people. They all think each other is going to hell.I don't like the idea of "serving".Shouldn't you be able to stop serving at some point in your life.We do a form of serving here because of our need to survive.I don't know,it just sounds like outdated concepts to me.I bought my pair of asbestos under ware.Time to take a swim in the lake of fire.

Uhm... okay... I'll consider "if thereis heaven and hell, they#re by necessity a lot like what Christians tell me".

I'd rather reign in hell. Just in case who goes where is truly decided the way the Christian right tells us.

The overall benefit would be: I'd have a chance to make hell as bearable as possible for those who did not, from a heathen-heretical morality point of view, deserve to go there.

Hell is where sinners serve their punishment while heaven is a peaceful abode for the righteous. I'd rather be an obedient servant serving in heaven than be a king reigning in hell.

I'd rather do like Huck Finn and "light out for the territory."

P.S. LI, you're the only other person besides me I've encountered on here that actually uses the word "schadenfreude." Cool.

The descriptions in the Christian bible make it pretty clear that Hell is the better place to be so I'll go there.

I'd need to install some air-conditioning first though.

Heaven and hell are states of mind. I know a lot of people who serve in heaven right now on earth and a lot of people who would like to think they reign in hell.
Here's what those who serve in heaven (from my personal experience) are like: wealthy, contributing to society in awesome ways, living their life purpose and grateful every single day for the good things in their life, enjoying divine health and having a personal relationship with God that is evident in their close family relationships. These people don't have the words fear, suffering, illness or stress in their vocabulary. I sure want to be like them and am doing everything I can to learn to serve God the way they do. I left a corporate career to volunteer in establishing homes for Aids orphans all across Africa. The people I work with, the people I serve and the beneficiaries of the work we do sure like experiencing heaven. In case you think these people are on another planet, my biggest role models in heaven on earth are Kirk Cameron, Cece Michaels, Ron and Johanna Kussmaul, Dr Phil McGraw and Dr Wayne Dyer.
The people I know who live in hell right now and think they reign there (mostly members of my family), all suffer from chronic illnesses, are either in debt or living on measly pensions, are in a constant stae of anxiety about the high cost of living and how to retire comfortably, have all kinds of addictions, cannot control their emotions and stress levels and take it out on their loved ones, have troubled marriages, delinquent kids and "friends" who constantly gossip about them. They beleive they reign because they live in nice hosues, drive luxury cars, wear designer clothers and drink Chivas Rival. Personally, I have opted out of this living hell and am following those who walk in the footsteps of The Master. Every day, when I wake up, heaven seems to be getting closer and closer
