The suppression of "blasphemy" is simply another form of censorship. It is, if enforced, a form of imposition of religion by disallowing its competition. "Obscenity" and "indecent exposure" are also based on this same moral code born of religious rule. They are all matters of "community standards," and one could go so far as to say their inclusion in public laws is a form of religious tyranny. I suspect that, if we all went around nude and constantly swearing, everyone would be used to it and wouldn't notice things we now vehemently suppress and agonize over. Also, I suspect some of us would keep ourselves in better shape. Ah, I miss reading Heinlein; he's so much fun! However, I'll add a codicil: I know of a real-life "Howard family" experiment, and it most definitely didn't work. Much of Heinlein's ideas work in fiction but not in the world as we experience it every day. There are just too many people who are too unwilling to unlearn too many things.
P.S. I also like Heinlein's quote concerning an armed society. I think it would cut down on the slurs mentioned by Lucky S above me...checks and balances, ya know!

Some people see blasphemy as being like a slur. So the question is really should we be allowed to say anything no matter how harmful? We have free speech, but we can't just say anything without consequences. Is slandering people fine? You could argue that any sort of hateful or ruinous speech is tantamount to nothing, but see how far you get if you insult the wrong people. I personally think we should be able to say anything, but you can't hurt someone's feelings and not expect a reaction.

I've never taken god's name in the vein, but once during a double attack of kidney stones, I was given Dilaudid, and boy was I grateful to the ER doctor.
Heinlein was openly atheist and had many witty quotes about religions.

Are you referring to the character "Lazarus Long" in the novels of R.H. Heinlein?
Many of Heinlein's themes involved "free love" and "open marriage" and casual comfort with mixed nudity. His stories also had a decided anti-religious element...

No they shouldn't be deleted. They are only opinions and every one is entitled to have one.Just because some one has a different one doesn't make them right.

I agree. There are a lot of people who think that any disagreement of their beliefs is a direct attack on them and will report it immediately. Seems a bit immature to me.

yeah, thats what the religious want...ultimately they want all of the people who disagree with them to shut up, and all who agree to be heard loud and clear, but i guess, partly, that goes for everyone
