This is for show people that keep intact male dogs in the home. Have any of you used one of the belly band thingy's with your male to keep him from hiking in the house? My friend's beagle, Cody, stayed with his handler over the weekend at her house while she drove back and forth to the dog shows with him. She bought one, and put it on him. He is a hiker! He has gotten me on the leg outside at a show before. LOL I guess he just looked down at it and left it alone. Have any of you had luck with this to keep the males from hiking inside? Before all of you ARA people get on here, you can not neuter a male if you are showing him in AKC conformation, so don't even suggest a stupid statement like that. Cody took Best of Breed on Sunday, he was dumped on Saturday which could of been a major, and then took BOB on Sunday for 2 points. So he is up to 7 points so far. WeFuss will have another champion that was bred at their kennel very soon!

Plenty of Pom people use belly bands. If they didn't have them then they would be lost. Cause a lot of people keep their dogs in the house and they don't want them marking on the furniture.ect.
I have used them on my boy too. But he doesn't mark in the house.

I get a feminine pad and put it in there and then change it every few hours. You have to make sure he is clean and dry because the belly band can cause irritation. Just make sure it isn't to tight or else it can hurt him.
It is like a baby you have to keep them dry or else they will get a rash and get irritation.

Oh it is very hard to train a boy from hiking the leg. I have done it but, oh boy what a chore. Like I said in a previous question I don't allow him to hike the leg in the house BUT, I allow him to hike the leg outdoors and he takes forever to call in the house because he is marking everything outside.

I have been marked on at a show by another pom. He got my shoe...

You cannot spay or neuter because the purpose for conformation is to evaluate your breeding stock.

We show in conformation to prove our dogs are worthy of being bred. We are not like the millions of back yard breeders who take any dog and just breed breed breed.

We do genetic testing and if the tests do not come out normal the dog is spayed or neutered. Pet quality is spayed or neutered. We want the best breeding stock possible.
It's not about money, it's about devotion to our dogs and breeding to better the breeed.
Our dogs are pets first. We care about our animals and about making a positive impact for our breed.

GotNewfs -You got some well trained dogs there. I applaude you.

Should you've already made the announcement at work, start sporting them as soon as they're what you find more comfy than your typical garments. Of course, with the stomach band, which you can nonetheless wear your usual clothes and most people cannot even tell. I am 19 weeks right now and sporting my usual denims with a stomach band and considering the fact that my shirt is lengthy, nobody even knows i've it on... I entirely realize where you're coming from although, eight weeks deep in my being pregnant I confirmed up to a family reunion wearing maternity garments. Now not most effective were they extra secure, but they allowed me room to enjoy the foods my loved ones prepares when they accumulate collectively! Congratulations!

haha why one earth would you even keep your male show dog intact if you did not hope to produce some fantastic progeny out of him...~~~~EDIT~~~ AKC is trying to better the breeds out there...they really focus on health issues and soundness in breeds..if a dog is breed worthy they would be the ideal candidate to be bred.. I have every health clearance possible done on my boys before ever breeding them..... I think someday AKC will find a way to weed out the BYB~~~~end of EDIT~~~~
I have heard great things about the belly bands too... I do not use them personally but have 3 intact males and 4 intact females in our home..no marking territory by the boys...every once ina while one of my girls will go in the house when she is in season....
I always wondered if they would just try to pee through the band.... if you gotta go you gotta go

Belly bands are used quite successfully with my rescue group. We do minpins, and the males are notorious for marking, neutered or not. We use ones with velcro closures so they can't wiggle out of them, and put sanitary napkins inside. They have an instant effect in most cases.
Now, I tried this with a Manchester Terrier, and he peed in the belly band all the time. As soon as he was fixed, he stopped, so I didn't need to resort to anything else.

in case you have already made the assertion at artwork, commence donning them as quickly as they are what you hit upon extra comfortable than some time-honored clothing. of direction, with the tummy band, possible positioned on some time-honored clothing and maximum folk won't be able to even tell. i'm 19 weeks good now and donning my time-honored denims with a abdomen band and because my shirt is long, no person even is definitely-known with I surely have it on... Kudos to all of you breeders who show and do the testing to produce good quality dogs. I could never do it.. One puppy drove me nuts. A litter would likely put me in the nuthouse for good..

With that off my chest.. I had a rescue dog who hiked on every available surface. He was neutered but boy did he like to hike. I put the belly band on and he never thought twice about it. He eventually went to his forever home where he now wears home made belly bands with teddy bears and dinosaurs on them anytime he can't literally be watched.

I've never had a dog who has needed it... although I have large breed dogs and I think its more of a smaller breed thing.

I have recommended it for a few rescued dogs and would do it if necessary (however, I usually catch my adolescent boys attempting it and scare the everlivin outta them.. I've never had one try it more than once).

I use belly band but its not always because they are "intact" males. I spay and neuter asap but often they still have that desire. We have had it work great. Cheaper route is an ace bandage.

My boys WOULD NEVER do that. I have never had one that did.
Guess I should be thankful too.

My boys DO fight!! They have to be well supervised or else!! They are indoor/outdoor. They have free access to either. Really, I have never had one of my boys lift his leg in the house.
If they were never in, it would be pretty sad of me to say they wouldn't pee in the house!!!!

I don't understand why the AKC conformation dogs cannot be neutered or spayed. It sounds counterproductive to me.

But I don't think anyone should bash you for not having a neutered male. As long as you aren't considering breeding him.
