My brother has been really depressed for the past 5 or so years. But lately he has been having mood swings, highs and lows. There are times when he's really elated and happy and then there are times when he's just angry at everything he sees and he starts throwing things around the house. There are even times when out of nowhere he will just look at me crazy as if he doesn't know me and rush towards me like he is about to attack me. During this moment, he'll threaten me with things like " I want to kill you, or I will seriously hurt you." This just arises from nowhere. I'm frightned to even live in the same household because he tells me that he's going to buy a gun soon. Yesterday, he said he found the courage to end his life and this really saddens me. I can't talk to him, because he doesn't recognize me as his sister anymore. He's really mentally sick and I'm scared. He has a history of drug abuse and Im not sure if he's using again. Please Help...

He needs to be "committed" to a mental health institution at least till he can be seen by some mental health doctors/nurses and have a psych evaluation.. He needs to get help immediately BEFORE he really does hurt himself, you or anyone else in the family.. If he/family have health insurance call the number on the back of most cards and they can direct you in the right direction.. I would if need be call EMERGENCY if he tries/does get physical. He may need some medication or drug treatment.. However, he needs help sooner than later... Good luck

my heart goes to you.... you need to be safe , that's first.. and if your not getting the emotional support from family, then you have to take control of what you can from this situation.. he threatens you, in a moods swing? he talks of killing self( it may or may not be a scream for help, but you have been threat end,by a person you have know a long time, you say its getting worse?? it will not get better, as we get into our 20s schizophrenia shows up or it could be bi-polar, maybe some really bad drug his doing, but the beauty is there is medical out there, medications available today can change a person from a non-functional being, to a functional , pro-active person, trying to lead a life, with some calmness to it... this is not something you can discuss with him, but talk with family, get support, if they have feelings of fear or a "stigma" hoping it will go away,,it wont, don't wait until something awful, get proactive and call 911 , in my state , when 911 is called for these situations, its a stepping stone, they must keep person for at least 72 hours to observe, at this time you intervene , its called being pro-active and tough love.. you sound like you love him, this is all about loving him, even if he doesn't see it today,,, he will in time, and you will have your brother again... i hope i helped a little.... email me if you need.... hugs to you.... growth isn't always easy.....peace to you..

Tell your parents. Have him sent to a psychiatric facility.
He's like that because of depression and drug abuse.
I've been through that. He needs help fast.
He will put an end to his life if no one takes the matter seriously.
