Carbohydrates - Rice, Bread, Pasta, Potatoes, that sort of thing is supposed to be good, but just eating healthy well balanced meals should be enough. Avoid fast food, and drink plenty of clean water.
Eating won't give you power - only repeated exercise can do that: work up slowly and mix aerobic exercise with the weights to keep it more like real life work. 40 minutes on a cross-trainer or cycle followed by 20 minutes on a weight machine is a good starting regime. Review your regime and your fitness every two months - is what used to be hard now easy? How much can I now lift effortlesly that used to be a struggle? Do I want to keep bulking up, or should I up the aerobics, and do more lifts of smaller weights?
In my experience lifting heavier and heavier weights is a self-defeating exercise - you are better to be trim and fit, toned and strong, without being muscle bound and with deteriorating joints from lifting too much. I actually do my morning routine straight out of bed, drink a lot of water during exercise, half a litre or more, but don't eat till after my shower.
It works for me.
If you are under 6ft tall, try to stay under 100kg in weight, and don't lift more than 50kg - that way lies injury and heart attack.
