If it's at Yahoo! answer - Rate it best answer and thank them in your response.

If personally - Give a good hug.

If on the phone - Call / send a thank you card.

If via email - Send a thank you e-card.

If the solution generates $$$, share the profits!

It depends on what the solution was...

If the solution made you win millions, then give the good guy a little bit of money (100 thousands?) or maybe you could invite him/her to participate in your business...

If the solution did not affect too much your wealth, I think that a sincere "thank you" will do the job.

In other cases, I recommend something in between the two extremes mentioned before.

You could select them as 'Best Answer' to your question, or you could decide to use the 'add details' section to thank individual people who have given good answers.

Some people also use the 'add details' to ask a further question.

If those alternatives do not take your fancy, you could see if the person allows contact and send them an email or IM.

Cheers :-)

On here? Give them a best answer, a thumbs up and a personal thank you in your notes after you pick them. Some people choose to email that person too, but not everyone likes that. Good thing is, those that don't like it ususally don't have their email open anyway.

You could give a best answer, email them to say thank you or post a question saying "Do you agree that ***** gave me the solution I needed?"

A simple thank you will usually suffice. A well thought out answer from someone who knows your problems answer because he or she is a professional working in the area of your problem will extra helpfull, but again, a simple "thanks man", makes you come off as a genuinely appreciative individual.
