If all the emissions etc and other details completed for your state then it is,but costly, but worth every penny and iam sure you would be able to sell it for what you paid out no problem. Some links below which may help.

Yes the new GT-R is great and so is the 350z but there not the Skyline standard yet and don't have the same cred yet.And following and head turning looks. And even now the Skyline even the early models have parts fitted well before they day.You have to think these cars where never cheap so where fitted with the best stuff then. And lets look at the R34 and all it has technical wise.

For some reason the emissions is a problem in the US and the safety issue. My old R32 was a great car and i can understand the safety as it had no airbags although had side impact bars. But My R33 has impact bars and dual airbags abs etc etc.and you cant tell me its less safer then most small cars on the US roads, and emissions both of my models had and have a cat fitted my R33 has two.But fail emissions gainst for example than a 5l V8 engine.

It's because the US isn't party to the World Forum for Harmonization of Vehicle Regulations.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Forum_for_Harmonization_of_Vehicle_Regulations

Generally speaking, any country approved for sale in any country on the list found in that article, can be imported with no restrictions apart from tariffs. Note that every major auto-exporting nation is on that list except the US.

Even though the US and international standards are broadly similar, they are not identical, so passing all the tests for one doesn't imply that you will pass them for the other. Getting approval is an expensive process, and many manufacturers do not care to repeat it for all their models, particularly for low-volume ones. So a lot of US-market cars can't be sold in many countries, and even more so vice-versa.

The Skyline was relatively low-volume, but big enough they eventually did it bring it (in the form of the Infiniti G35). You'll never see weird **** like the Will Cypha, Sera, and Be-1 in the US, though.

A company (Motorex) DID get approval to import the things, but it turned out they overstepped their engineering a bit and were importing R34s when they'd only proven the R33s to be compliant. That is one of the reasons they are no longer importing cars.

So there are a few cars in the US legally. But no more are coming in (not legally, at least). And you probably won't see any more except those that are at least 25 years old.

It just won't meet DOT and EPA reg's. Get a 350Z and have a much better engineered car with modern safety equiptment. Besides there were not that many GTR's made. So if you even find one it will have been driven very hard. The New Nissan GTR is comming out as a 2009 in summer 08. Order now because they will be only 1,600. That keeps it exclusive and dealer maark up very high.

The older models (pre-2000), R34 I believe. Did not have side impact door beams and safety glass. There is a company out of CA that would imports them and does the modifications and resells them.
