I was just laughing at something I read on Yahoo! Answers and this guy (I'm in a computer lab in my dorm) turned around and said "something's funny?" Smiling, I replied "obviously."

Am I a jerk? It was an accident!

It's okay we all speak first and then think later!
Next time you see him say sorry for being rude and I am sure all will be forgiven.

Hope this helps,

That statement may have been a little rude, but that doesn't make you a jerk. That you were smiling when you said it tells me that you were still "in the moment" and being funny yourself.

I've made similar mistakes that have offended people who mistook my meaning. When something like that happens now, I'll confirm that yes, something is funny. And if I know the person well enough, I'll ask if they'd like to see so they can have a good laugh, too.

Not at all rude. Why else would a person laugh unless something is funny!?

lol, well depends on how you said it, the tone and what you did afterwards. how did he seem to take it? i think he's rude if it was a instant reaction to something funny. and besides some people blurt out what they are thinking without thinking about it.. and i think it was a funny comeback! just as long as you dont do it to degrade anyone

No you were not a jerk or rude. Don't keep reading too much into other people's minds. Unless they tell you "that was rude", don't worry about it.

I hate it when someone asks me that; YES, OBVIOUSLY something's funny! I would have been much worse and sarcastic; the guy was asking for it...

He could have let you know more politely that he thought you were being too loud. Maybe both of you were a little at fault but it's really no biggie.

Yes! You were a wee bit rude! Your reply was a bit curt, I believe you could have shared the joke with him instead!!!
