Love is love, correct?

So why not allow all forms of love be cemented in marriage?

By the way I do not support either form/ perversion (polygamy and same-sex) of marriage..

hooooo boy...

I am a hetero, monogamous, conservative/moderate/ Christian.

Why?

Because that is how I was raised. More than 80% of all the people on this planet follow a similar religious belief structure to that in which they were raised. Your personality is shaped genetically---your beliefs are shaped by the people you associate with. this extends to all of the BIG THREE, religion, politics and sex.

Do I support gay marriage? well, not exactly, and neither does my gay brother. But do I believe that any committed couple should be able to secure rights in property, insurance, inheritance, etc? Yeah.

Do I support polygamy? NO. I think that one woman is all a man can handle. But...if consenting adults choose to live in a plural relationship, like king David, Soloman, sheesh, even Abraham...it is not my place to stop this.

I do not approve of, or llike, a whole lot of things. That does not make it my perrogative to try to prevent consenting ADULTS from doing what they will, and I know that polygs have abused and coerced children, that there are bad consequences sometimes around homosexual marriage. There abuses might not have occurred if polygs were not living in a secret society, hiding from the law...

But, yeah, in fact, tho I recognize your sarcasm, love IS love, and can exist in relationships that are unfamiliar or repulsive to me. I don't have to like it, associate with it, whatever---but I am not authorized to prohibit or persecute it.

why?

Because, like I said, the overwhelming majority of people on this planet follow similar belief structures to those in which they were raised.

That means the what I believe has little to do with reality---it has EVERYTHING to do with where, by whom, and how I was raised. I do not have a hammerlock on reality.

my guess is, neither do you. No offense intended.

Because they think it's a 'straw man' intended to derail the discussion of why they shouldn't have the same rights as everyone else.

Personally, the only problem I have with polygamy is that so many young girls are being forced into marriages with older men. I don't believe anyone under 18 should be allowed to get married, and it should never be coerced by a religious leader.

I think a person should be able to define their marriage any way they choose as long as everyone involved is a consenting adult. America is supposed to be about freedom and equality, not conformity and uniformity.

Gay marriage should be legal for everyone, everywhere. Nothing else is acceptable in a democracy. There's nothing perverse or harmful about it.

Its apples and oranges. Whether is right or wrong polygamy is an illegal act punished by law. Gay marriage its not illegal, but not recognized either. Also, in the states that it's allowed, the legal marriage is only with one woman the others are "married" by religious practices. Polygamy still, is between different sexes .Yeah, love is love, I love my dogs, but I'm not going to marry her/him. One last thing, I don't think, it's a matter of fact I'm positive that people who support gay marriage don't "bristle" at the mention of polygamy because they are two totally different "animals"

good question.

i think that its mainly because of the loyalty to your spouse that is present in a marriage between two people, whatever the gender. Societies that accept same sex marriages also expect that people marry for love. When you marry someone you love, its saying that you have decided that this person is your other half for sure and that you want to start a life where its the two of you together.

Polygamy just seems like you can pick and choose as your life goes on, that you can love someone and feel that same love for someone else as per your whims and fancies. It would be fair if the non polygamous (is that the right word?) partner was cool with it.

I don't think they do always. "love is love" isn't a great argument because it's very easy to argue that this applies to two people (regardless of gender), not a whole group things.

I'm in favour of same-sex marriage but slightly against polygamy, usually because it is quite simply a form of sexism entrenched in religion. If it honestly happened with the multiple genders going both ways, no exploitation, all consent etc, then I wouldn't care. But it seems to be confined to certain cultures, where the women are often oppressed, or dirty old men get teenage girls.

If two people love each other, I have not problem with them getting married. Hell, if 3 or 4 CONSENTING adults all want to be in a group marriage, I don't care, because it has no effect on me. The problem with polygamy is that too many dirty old men use it as an opportunity to have sex with little girls as young as 13, or younger sometimes.

How about you just mind your own business? Where ever you live.. If two gay men 5 states away got married, what effect would that have on you? Absolutely none. If gay people are allowed to get married, the world will not collapse, everyone will not turn gay and get married, thus ruining America. Life will go on as it always has. Just get over yourself.

Honestly, the thought of polygamy and same sex marriage intrigues me. I wonder what the dynamics of a polyamoric relationship would be like. It would be interesting, to say the least, from both points of view.

I think that society on the whole would be much happier if they would dwell more on the human experience and less on fear.

The polygamy argument is a red herring. Polygamy has nothing to do with monogamous mixed or same gender marriage.

Well it depends on who's form of Marriage you are taking. Each culture has a different definition of marriage. I personally don't care what people do as long as it doesn't involve little kids and Animals.

I could care less who marries who. I does concern me. I they love each other and are good to each other then more power to them. The only problem i have with polygamy is old men marrying underage girls. Now that's sick.
