I have a packard bell imedia 1308 which has a sector of the disk set aside for xp recovery, would it be best to create a master copy of xp on dvd-r so i can recover the partition for xtra space. Or should I leave it be, not interfere? Ps The same goes for my laptop (o/s Vista Home Premium). Anyone with good advice please advise me!! Ta

It is recommended that you have a back-up copy of your system stored in a dvd or a partition. In your case, you have a back-up image in the partition and you want to transfer it to a dvd. There is nothing wrong with that just make sure that everything you copied into the dvd is exactly the original of the partition. Its quite easy and no fuss.

There should be a routine to make a recovery disk somewhere in the original installation. Probably it will only allow 1 copy only. Don't delete the original recovery data though. It's always a good idea to have 2 copies just in case
