I asked for one the other night, and the bartender just told me, "We don't make Vodkatinis here." She didn't say they didn't have the ingredients (and I can't imagine they don't, as there are only two and they're both fairly common, and they make other varieties of Martini), she just said they don't make them. I didn't think to ask why at the time. Any ideas?

EDIT: I should point out that I've been going to this place and ordering drinks from this girl for ages now, and I tip well and have never been disrespectful, so I doubt she was just "being difficult" about it. She's also rather capable, and a vodka Martini is pretty darn simple to make.... She did offer me a dirty Martini as a substitution, so maybe they just don't have dry vermouth?

The problem I always ran into was that they just didn't keep dry vermouth-most of the faux martinis don't have it.
Since I was a regular they finally allowed me to buy my own vermouth and they kept it in the cooler labeled with my name, but that probably won't work for you-sorry.

I have never heard of such a thing.
But here is a rule I have, if a bartender doesn't want to make a particular drink, don't twist thier arm, 'cause you'll get a pretty bad drink. Order something else at this place, and get a martini somewhere else, where they know how to make them right.

2 options: 1) they just don't know how to make the fancy VodkaTinis at his location so they're just saying "we don't make them here".
or 2) if you just want a simple Vodka Martini (which is ONLY vodka and vermouth) then push the issue with them and ask, "How hard is it to make vodka and vermouth"? It's no different then a vodka and tonic. ONLY 2 INGREDIENTS bartender!!!

I think your right. The actual martini is becoming a trademark of the past only for British spys and Big Band singers. They probably stopped carrying vermouth. At the bar i worked at in two years i only orders three bottles of Martini and Rossi vermouth.

maybe, just maybe, she didn't hear you correctly.

even if she was out of dry vermouth, she could have easily made a martini without it.

very dry...

maybe, just maybe she said "i won't model bikini's"

it's a stretch i know...

maybe she was being difficult. or maybe she only thinks a martini should be gin. oh, you know what-maybe she could not even make one!
