my boyfriend of 1 year was looking at promise rings the other day at a jewelry store, i know it is a commitment....what what should it mean to me?......marriage? commitment to only be with one person?

From what I understand about the origin of the tradition, it's a promise that one day, he'll replace the ring with an engagement ring. So, basically it's a pre-engagement ring.

Well I've never had a promise ring but the girls I know who have gotten promise rings were told that it's a promise to get married one day.

My bf got me one. It means a commitment to be with that one person and, if together long enough, it is a promise to marry in the future.

i think its "to promise to stay together and love each other" but who knows i have heard people say that no matter what in the end they will get married when they bought those
maybe he wants to marry you but wants to use this to get a little more serious first.
