A person is not a sinner because they sin...
They sin because they are a sinner...
A sinner does that which is "natural" to them.
Is masturbation natural?
The problem isn't so much "what is a sin" so that I can avoid it in order to go to heaven...
The problem is: I am a sinner in need of salvation...and how can I be saved?
...only by way of becoming a "new creation"!
(2 Corinthians 5:17)
-
Do you think people will masturbate in heaven?
-
Do you think Jesus masturbated?
-
How about this:
Do you think it is healthy to dissociate masturbation from what it represents spiritually?
When a person is said to be "saved", they are said to "know God". When a man "knows" a woman (Biblically speaking), the woman brings forth new life. When a person is reconciled to God through the mediator Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit brings forth new life. The intimacy of the gift of union between a man and a woman is deeply spiritual, sacred, and glorious - one of God's greatest physical gifts to represent God's greatest spiritual gifts, even eternal life - and to be one with Him in heaven for all eternity.
-
If you burn with such passion, what does 1 Corinthians 7:1-9 say?

Are you implying that the issue is nonexistent if it's females masturbating?
I didn't think so, just checking.
I believe it all depends (assuming you are using some form of the Bible as the reference authority) on the definition of "fornication", the predominant term used therein to refer to unacceptable sex acts. Masturbation per se is not specifically mentioned in the Bible, except for one OT story about a fellow who chose that method over his new bride and got zapped for it on the spot; not very encouraging. Bear in mind that at that time the command to "be fruitful and multiply" was a prime directive, and the NeoJudaic cultural attitudes about having lots of kids (and wives) may have slanted the telling of the tale a bit.
If you are a serious Christian intent on "being perfect" (thank God that phrase was in the Greek, and has a totally different implication than our modern one*), then masturbation is probably going to be one of those things that do nothing to further your relationship with God... if anything, it will require a little distancing from the Holy Spirit while you tend to a carnal issue. Never constructive. Sometimes a bad idea.
At the very least, I would submit that masturbation is a counter-productive act of carnality that will do nothing for your relationship with God; at worst, yes, it is a sin falling under the category of "fornication".
{ * the nuance of the Greek word used in the admonition to Christians to "...be ye perfect..." is that of a process of perfection, a growth into perfection, NOT a miraculous instantaneous total change of nature or substance. God seems to do that once in a great while with a very few select individuals; the rest of us have to work at it.)

If you accept that marriage is sacred and one of the sacraments of the Church and that the sexual union of husband and wife is the true visible manifestation of the couple's love and union, then sex without a wife doesn't make sense. Again, you are free to object but you did ask for a serious reply and I am replying according to the Christian meaning of sexual union. So masturbation is a disorderly manifestation of sexual energy since it is just a means to an end. Sexual union is not simply about pleasure. Masturbation is. That's all it is. True sexual union is meant to be the manifestation of love between husband and wife. The pleasure of their union is a pleasant consequence of their union.
As far as masturbation being a sin, well it is a shortcut to pleasure, a man who masturbates uses his body like a piece of meat, just for pleasure. Since our body is not indented for that, is it a disorderly use of this sacred and amazing gift which is our body. And by definition, sin is disorder. So masturbation is considered a sin indeed which can lead into others. The bottom line is that if masturbation is not stopped, it will be hard for that person to understand that sex is not just about using a body for pleasure and that person will be missing out on the true amazing body and soul experience of marital sex. God bless

Sorry... I am not a male. I feel this should apply to females as well.
No, I don't believe masturbation is a sin if in fact you can preform the act without lusting. Personally I struggled with this and sought an answer from God years ago. But are you looking at pictures to get your self there? I do believe that is wrong, or even visualizing another persons body. But to focus on the feeling and the sensation... I know is ok for me... I am at peace with that for me. Keep in mind moderation is the key. Don't allow it to become an act that you worship.

What a cruel joke it would be to give an urge that you aren't supposed to act on; especially if it didn't hurt anyone. Stop using a book of stories as your crutch for existence, and let nature continue naturally.

Only if it involves pornography, or lustful thoughts and/or images in your mind. Also if it is obsessive or in any way has control over you. The bible never says masturbation is a sin, but it does say lust, addictive behavior, fornication, etc. is a sin. I'm not sure if you can regularly masturbate without falling into one of these traps eventually.

Why on earth would a god create you with sexual desire and a completely safe means of relieving it by yourself, and then punish you for doing so? That's beyond ridiculous.
