my mum just had menopause about a year ago. and every once in awhile, she gets really violent. she threw plates at me, broke everything in the house. my dog had a little "accident" on the carpet just now. and she went berserk. she wanted to kill her. I had to lock that dog in my room.
is the whole violent thing just an effect from menopause?
she has been an angry person her whole life but she usually just screams and threatens people. since last year, she's been really violent.. like physically violent..
is there anything i can do to stop her being so angry?

Menopause can cause a whole range of behaviors, but this sounds really way out there!

Your mom needs to go to her doctor... seriously. See if you can find her gynecologist's number, call them, tell them about this major violent shift, and ask them to send her a card telling her to come in for her appointment and perhaps also leave a message for her on the answering machine. They will take some blood and send it to the lab to see what all is messed up. They can make a better diagnosis from there. It sounds like they will probably refer her to a psychiatrist.

Other than that, about all you can do is do your studies, do your chores, keep the dog well-walked and out of harm's way, and get ready to go find shelter at a friend's house.
See if you can spend most weekends with a grandparent or friend, just to give your mom space.

I'm going through menopause myself, and I get a bit mopey now and then, but not violent... I got myself a motorcycle, though.

Ask your mother to get hormone treatment. Maybe you can do some research and print it for her. She might get angry even for that, but tell her you doing it because you want her to feel good. Believe me, hormone therapy will make a big change in her (and the whole family, dog included) life.

oh my god! get that dog away from her! can she sleep in you room? put water and food bowls along with her bed and let her stay with you tonight with the door shut. If she gets to the point were shes about to really kill her you need to call the cops!
