Montoya, Villeneuve, Speed ?

2007-11-05 17:01:09 · 22 answers · asked by Ted S 2 in Sports Auto Racing NASCAR

no offense to anybody, I am from here and I understand Nascar as well as F1. But over the years F1 is more fun and Nascar races become dull and the actual racing takes place only towards the end.
Who says Montoya is doing bad ? he is gonna be Rookie of the year, done as well as any rookie has and he will very likely fight for Chase next year, which leads me to think that Nascar is a destination for F1 Dropouts.

Why do I get the impression you're not really a NASCAR fan?

A recent convert and former F1 champ of a few years ago said after competing in F1, "Once you reach it, you start opening your eyes to other things. You realize there are other things than Formula One in life and there is better racing out there. You want to find the best racing possible."........" it becomes much easier to look for the best racing. Do you want to just parade around or do you want to have fun with the other drivers and race hard all the time? That's what NASCAR is all about."

"Now, I'm ready to do NASCAR."

Are you absolutely sure that moving from F1 to NASCAR is a demotion? Villeneuve seems to view F1 as a stepping stone to Cup.

Hey Nascar is where the most action is..36 races and what do race car drivers like to do "RACE" most of the other series only has 14-16 races...Villeneuve won the Indy 500 and the Cart Championship as well as F1 World Driving Chamionship.. JPM won Indy 500,and F1 races and a Cup race as well.. Scott Speed...well duh, in a Torro Rosso no chance at anything..I'd leave if i was in that piece of crap, that makes Jr's stuff look great.. Scott is starting over in ARCA, he has the passion and big time attitude to get it done.. All of these drivers look at Nascar as a big challenge, some will make it some won't.. We will have to re-evaluate all this in about 3 yrs to see and compare how these guys are doing with the regular cup guys...Juan has improved big time...In F1 some of the best drivers in the world have come from South America, that list is endless.. Only time will tell in Nascar..

Montoya and Villeneuve are proven winners in F1 (Villeneuve was a World Champion, remember that), and I belive Scott Speed had gotten a raw deal in F1 (why else did Red Bull decide to bring him back over to the US to let him try his hand in stock cars). I belive Speed was the better of the two drivers that races for Toro Rosso, just didnt have the car hold up under him.

I could probably guarentee you that if Montoya had pushed enough for one, he could of found another F1 ride instead of a NASCAR ride, and Villeneuve pretty much bad mouthed himself out of F1.

I find it funny that for years, NASCAR fans wanted the world to view them as a legitimate racing series, and not some series where hillbilly country bumpkins are racing around in technology that open wheel series laugh at. Now that there is more legitimacy of NASCAR with drivers around the world, now all of a sudden, people are pissing and moaning about it.

No, and no offense to you but at least in NASCAR there IS actual racing at SOME point. In F1 they line up and play follow the leader for 200 laps. Oh boy, that is exciting. With only 5 teams or so even capable of winning, the migration of F1 drivers is more driven by the rampant cheating, politics and lack of competition in that series.

No.
It's because F1 is faltering so guy's are jumping ship. Plus, Montoya is quoted as saying,...' in F1 it's test, test, test, until your blue in the face then play follow the leader on race day. But Nascar hardly tests compared to F1 and it's alot more fun driving in Nascar because you can actually race each other.'

No these guys have gotten smart and are realizing where the good drivers are. It isn't F1 that's for sure! F1 is about money, and who can built the most expensive car. Take the best driver in the world and put him in a bad F1 car and he won't win at all. Take a driver with some talent and give him a Nascar ride and he may stand a chance. Nascar = level playing field F1= bigger bank account.

I think that in there line of driving there are so many lower series building up to the top series, F1 that they are easy to be replaced by better and younger drivers with better reactions times.
Look at the field these owner have to chose from THE WHOLE WORLD! Every country that allows auto racing has road courses as the most dominate form of a race track except good ole USA. For some reason we like the roundy round thing. That limits your talent selection folks.
NA$CAR under the way they do things today has no stepping up series that is worth a hill of beans. When the top ten of a busch race are all cup drivers, well try to get this through your think NA$CAR brainwashed minds NO driver wants to lose doesn't matter if your F1, NA$CAR or the Soup Box Derby and if you are busch driver NOT a cup driver how do you deal with being beat every race but yet you are the best true busch driver finishing in 12th spot?
The drivers that you mentioned you know are fully capable of doing very good in NA$CAR.
Montoya has a respectable record in F1. Montoya had a family and lived in the US Too much time away from home
Villeneuve is a Champion in two major series Not like being the champ of the Busch and wanting to be a Cup champion. Winning a Busch series as a cup driver has to be like winning a third round match up at the drags in your bracket. He got stuck with a team that decided that they were going to turn into a research development team and his career went down hill fast not because of his driving.
Scott Speed I think out of the bunch not only being the younger of the bunch but I think he may have some equal talent in the long run. Not sure why they let him go. Could have been chemistry or something along that line because he a had better showing of point and finishes than his team mate did. He had a good ARCA race but was sort of left out because the attention was more focused on Dario.
As far as I know no NA$CAR driver has ever attempted to go to F1. The other way has happen several time not just now.
So I guess my answer is heck NO it is only going to make NA$CAR better. NA$CAR's problem is there mangment and not the driving and if so many people were not brainwashed by NA$CAR they would understand this. But I guess if you are newbie or a kid it is easy to become brainwashed to agree with there silly rule making and judgment calls.
I personally have limited my NA$CAR watching time and I have stopped suporting this mockery of a racing series. You can have to best in the world but if the show sucks because the way it is run then the show sucks.

Lets call it the Andretti syndrome. Go race wherever you can make money. No matter what series, just get a ride and collect.

I think that the F1 drivers are jumping ship now that there have been BIG FINES levied against some teams for cheating. Hmmmmm, take away cheating, take away the edge, take away the wins?????

Quick, everybody, lets go try that NASCAR thing!!!!!

No offense?? You calling nascar a cesspool and we're to take "no offense" Drivers are coming to nascar for one main reason "Money" It's the most popular auto racing there is, and with a 36 race season, it's the best paying!

No. Some good drivers are coming from F1 for one reason only. They realize that NASCAR is the pinnacle of auto racing. And thats true whether the elitest fans of F1 want to admit it or not.
