It depends really. Religion itself is not creepy. Many times, it creates rules that help civilizations thrive and make people behave civilly towards one another. It also gives children a way to keep demons away, since they haven't developed their reasoning skills completely, it creates communities and promotes communication and service between people. It also can give someone hope for the future and an escape from complete reality that can have major psychological effects, almost acting like a defense mechanism.
Like anything else involving power, it can be and most of the time, it is misused to do things that are creepy. If people could be shown why religion was really created and the practical purposes it is supposed to serve, and if it wasn't used by corrupt man/women to brainwash people with bad things, it really wouldn't seen SO creepy.

Religion is not creepy, i don't want to push anything on you but its a scary world believe it or not, with all the violence and crime, and deaths, and wars, and the list goes on. Religion is something like fate that you can hold on to and when everything is against you, you still believe that god is in your side, and you also believe that doing good things does actually have a reward (heaven)...It's an actual lifestyle for me. I'm not 100% religious as i would like to be but i can't imagine living without it ...thats just my opinion.
