Or how about compared to a glock?

I do not like any S&W semi-auto. I owned own and had nothing but problems with jamming. I got rid of it after 4 months. If I had a choice between Glock and S&W semi-autos I would go with Glock. You may want to look into Springfield Armory XD Series. Very close to the Glocks, but better safety features and over feel compared to Glocks. Thinner grips, more of a natual pointer, better sights. Before you buy another gun, just pick one up.

Traditionally S & W has made excellent revolvers but their auto loaders have left something to be desired (especially their Sigmas). Glocks, on the other hand, are sturdy, dependable, rugged, user friendly, accurate, high cap and available in more calibers than most modern auto loaders. If you like the .45 with Glock you have the full-size and compact .45 acp, the .45 GAP and the full-size short frame for the shooter with smaller hands. In nine you have the 17 (full size), the 19 compact and the 26 sub-compact so again Glock has covered all the bases.

Best.

I don't like Glock pistols--they're not a bad firearm, I just don't care for the trigger and I don't care for the feel, but given the choice of a Glock and a S&W semi--I'd take the Glock every time. I keep hearing that S&W is building better autoloaders, but in my opinion there are several brands I'd choose over the S&W. And that's on the basis of quality.

Anything else but S&W autos. I have had nothing but bad luck with them. Glock, Beretta, Sprinfield, even Taurus over Smiths.
