ROUTINE. That is one thing I learned early on. Make sure your child is fed enough, bath, story, etc. Whatever you do on a nightly basis - make it the same things and at the same time every night. That way your child knows that after a bath and story (or your usual routine) it is time for bed.

Keep them active throughout the day and you may need to cut out a nap (or make it earlier in the day).

Hope it works for you!

My 3.5 yo has outgrown naps, and on the rare occasions that he takes them, stays up late! So I wouldn't encourage naps unless you can tell your child needs one.

Also, have a bedtime routine - we usually read about 3 books before bedtime while he's in bed, and then he turns on his side and drifts off. Since he doesn't nap anymore, this is usually between 7:30-8pm (but with the time change, tonight he fell asleep at 6:30!

My 2 1/2 year old used to go to bed so late so I stopped giving her naps. She had out grown them. Instead she got a little alone/quiet time where she'd watch a movie and lay down. At night she gets one glass of strawberry milk, a bed time story and then we both sing to her little sister (they share a room) and no she's in bed by 8! It's really nice cause then me and daddy get alittle alone time! ;-)

Good luck!

Make it a game.Tell your child that you are going to play house but you have to pretend to go to sleep. But before you play this game settle the child down with stories, snuggling and brushing teeth. If that does not work, tell the child before their nap, you can skip your nap and have quiet time with the tv if you go to bed earlier. Tell your kid that is the more grown up thing to do. Stay consistent!
