There are now actually working '555' prefixes in many areas. Of course 1-area code-555-1212 has been in use for years for information for another area code. 1-700-555-4141 has been in use a long time also. It is not an exclusive 'movie' or TV number. They just figure it was the safest prefix, since it has been for a long time rarely used for home numbers. Mostly for information. Many places use 555-1212 instead of 411 for information..

555 is used for movies and tvs. In "Bruce Almightly" they did not use the 555 in one part of the movie and people called the number displayed in the movie.... it ended up being a real person and she was getting hundreds of calls an hour and had to cancel her cell phone. I think she may have put a lawsuit against the movie too.

because they use 555 in movies and tv so people dont get phone calls because their phone number was seen in a movie. the phone compaines dont use the 555 prefix for that reason

i don't know WHY but i have noticed that all movie & TV #'s are 555 something

Because you're not dialling the right format.

You have to put a 1 first if its in the US or a 00 first if it's in Brazil
