Out of respect for you and to be there to show his support for you, he should go. However, if he chooses not to, be sure to go anyway. Perhaps you could find a friend or just go alone. Your best friend has suffered a huge loss. She needs all the friendship, love and support she can get at such a sad time.

Well, ask yourself. Does he in fact know your best friend? Did he know her mom well? He shouldn't have to go if he doesn't want to. The point of people attending funerals is to pay their respects and show their condolences, and if he has neither, than he has no business being there. Hope that helps :)

Has he ever met your BF's mom?
Does he have to miss work?
It would be a nice gesture but if he doesn't know the family he may feel awkward.

HE SHOULD GO

UNLESS HE HAS A VERY GOOD REASON ON WHY HE JUST CAN'T BE THERE FOR YOU

--- LIKE IF HE HAS JUST LOST SOMEONE CLOSE TO HIM (MOM,DAD,BOTHER,BEST FREIND) THEN I GUESS HE GETS A PASS THAT CAN BE VERY HARD TO DEAL WITH DEATH AFTER A FAMILY MEMBER HAS PASSED ON. FIGURE OUT WHY HE DON'T WANNA GO THEN TAKE STEPS FROM THAT POINT
