If you are using a Windows OS (NT, 2000, XP, Vista) you already have the ability to password protect a folder. Simply right click on the folder and select Properties. The Properties dialog will appear. Select the Security Tab. There you can decide which users have what access to that folder.

Of course, for this to work you should make sure that your account has a password that must be used to login.

If you want to make something even more secure, try TrueCrypt. It's free, open-source software for creating entire password protected and encrypted volumes on your hard drive or other removable storage devices.

Power archiver (a free zip program)
will allow you to put a password on folders
go to this page

http://www.oldversion.com/program.php?n=powarc

and page down and you will see the list of previous versions of power archiver
the best one is version 6.11(i believe it was the last version of this software that was completely free)
install
and then// when you right click on a folder
select "compress to zip plus options..."
then at the bottom of the box click the button "password"
and then you set the password /(it makes you type it twice)
then hit ok button at top
and then the folder will be compressed into a zip file
then when you open(double click) the zip file
you will see your files inside a zip box
but when you double click any file to access
then it will prompt you for password to open file
it works well for photos
this is all i have used it for

You shouldn't need any software to secure cetain files. You should be able to do most of this just with your existing operating system.

However, several parental control programs and software bits give you the capability to lock certain folders. I am unsure of which ones are free, but if you look into it, I'm sure you'll be able to find SOMETHING!

Good luck with that folder!
