Well the AC-130 is armed with a 40mm cannon and a 105mm artillery piece. With an average amount of ammunition, it could decimate the 10 square miles of Mecca. It can also carry a BLU-82 Blast Bomb. This bomb is pushed out of the back. It has 12,600 pounds of conventional explosives. So unless you mean every building in Mecca, than the AC-130 could do it. It couldn't turn it into a second Dresden (german city during ww2 we basicly might as well have nuked because the amount of conventional bombs we used on it turned it into rubble, literaly). But we could still almost bomb the city into submission with ease.

A C-130 with a MOAB could do considerable damage to Mecca...the sacred mosque, not the city. Mecca covers an area of 356,800 square meters. A standard city block in American cities is about 21,680 square meters. MOABs are designed to clear up to 9 city blocks; therefore, the bomb would destroy about 195,120 square meters. Approximately 54% of the site would be destroyed, as well as extra damage caused by the shock wave creatd by the blast. This blast would turn the Kabba into rubble and probably take out most of the prayer towers.

Why would you want to attack Mecca, it is a holy shrine, a place of pilgrimage to thousands, and located in Saudi Arabia, an ally of the U.S.A., and there are U.S. & Coalition airbases in the region.
Any such incident would only succeed in turning the entire Muslim population against the West and would serve no justifiable military purpose.

although tempting as it may be, im sure the airspace around mecca is a very sizeable exclusion zone enforced by the most advanced air defense system saudi petrodollars can buy and lots of saudi f-15s. i dont think an ac-130 would last very long.

Do you mean the place that millions of people make a religious pilgrimage to every year, including my step mother? You want to bomb people who haven't done you any harm? Even as a joke it's in poor taste.

It's a bad target selection. It's the same as trying to blow up every Protestant church because of the Ku Klux Klan.

You know why that won't happen? Mr. "Bandar Bush", and how he's buddy-buddy with the Saudis (for those not in the know, "Bandar Bush" was the nickname the Saudi Royal Family gave George W. because they joked he was almost like a member of their family.) That, and you guys are a bunch of inhumane warmongers without respect for human life.

yes, if it was fitted for carpet bombing or had the MOAB on it. carpet bombing would still leave a fair bit of rubble, but I don't think there's be too many buildings standing if all bombs hit the area. and the MOAB is a conventional bomb that is about 1/4 as powerfull as a nuke. it'd be able to level the area.
