Traditional Muslims v. Modern Muslims?

Question

If you're a Muslim, how would you describe yourself; as a modern or traditional Muslim?

I'm doing a research paper comparing and contrasting some views between these two, anyone interested?

well Muslims in general, shi'ite and sunni, as long as they believe themselves to be modern or traditional

There is no traditional muslim nor modern one.This distinction was made by the usa & europe for political reasons,there is a muslim who is commited to the teaching of islam (traditional) and a muslim who isn't (modern),according to my observance,i noticed that every modern muslim is a potential traditional one,since sooner or later he will commit himself to islam teaching while the reverse rarely happen ,i.e a traditional muslim to become modern.

I do not believe there is such a thing as a Modern Muslim. Either your practicing your religion or not. I describe myself simply as a Muslim. There is no such thing in Islam as anything but a Muslim.it is only in western culture that they want to try and describe someone as being a Modern Muslim and this to, they are doing this to stop the spread of Islam and distort the message...

usually when someone says traditional vs. modern muslim, it means, are you a practicing muslim or are you muslim who trying to hold up western views? so its matter of you're holding on to your religion or throwing it aside and claiming to be modern. that's how i see that question. and i would say in that sense i am "traditional" or i try to be, although i don't use that term describe myself on a daily basis. i could be wrong about what you mean by that question.

ok traditional muslims are people who have stuck to their roots and they really dont follow pure islamic culture but that of the Persians who early islamists were able to convert thus veiling a modern muslim is one who seeks to get along with the world thus having Fashion Week being introduced in places like my home Pakistan and modern muslims seek to grow with the rest of the world instead of sitting at home veiled thinking that this is how one is to live there life

Muslims are the followers of Islam religion.Muslims do not separate into traditional and modern muslims because at the eyes of God all humans are the same.The diffrence lies on their faiths (taqwa) whether they are strong or weak and their doings whather they have more good doings or bad doings during their lives.Someone who has a strong faith will obey to all God's instructions and God's prohibitionds as stated in the holy Qur'an as the life guide given by God to all humans..
He/she compled to the God's life guide during his/her life because he/she is afraid for having sins.He/she knows that God is omnipresent and omnipotent and also merciful and loveful.
If you called traditional muslims maybe muslims who have no well education.They learn Islam only as a habit from their ancestors..They do not want to study in depth what are the meaning of all verses of Qur'an and Hadith in their own language for practising in their own lives.They receive the tradition of muslims from their parents and relatives only as bad and good doings..Their tradition sometimes is contrary to the pure islamic religion teaching,because it is merged with the old tradition before their ancestors became muslims
such as broken egg,taking a bath with folweredwater,tossing rice with coins to attendances in their wedding ceremony as the remnant of hindhu religion..The modern or well educated muslims did not do those things anymore.,because those are not good tradition of Islam.The wedding ceremony in real islamic tradition is very simple.;The qualification are only the would be bride and bride groom,their parents,2 witnesses,the

Muslim is a definition and a "condition of faith" that fulfills the basic requirements.....

Its like asking if someone is a little bit pregnant or very pregnant.

Either you fulfill the basic requirements (5 pillars) or not.

A Muslim is one who has submitted his/herself to the Lord of Abraham.

Islam is the description of the “spiritual state” or “spiritual condition” of a person. This definition is irrespective of time or place.

This term can be used as a criterion for the first Man/woman created to the last man/woman created.

Islam means to “voluntarily submit ones will to the will of GOD”.

To “voluntarily submit oneself” means to believe in the one God, his Prophets and follow the commandments/laws they brought down for that time.

A "Muslim" is ONE who has voluntarily submitted himself/herself to the Lord of Abraham (ALLAH).

All the Prophets from Adam to Noah, to Abraham , to Moses ,to Jesus , to Mohammed and all in between as well as their followers were "Muslim" and they practiced "Islam".

Moses and all his followers were of those who submitted themselves to the Lord of Abraham so they were in the spiritual condition of "Islam" as "Muslims".

For the followers of Moses to stay "Muslim" they would have had to follow the last Israelite Prophet (Messiah) – Jesus -- and obey the latest commands sent down by GOD.

For the followers of Jesus to stay "Muslim" they would have had to accept the final Abrahamic Prophet – Mohammed -- and obey the latest commands sent down by GOD.

The Lord of Abraham will decide who lived the life of a "Muslim" and only those who receive HIS mercy on the day of Judgement will enter into Paradise and be saved from the fire of Hell.

All things in nature and every child is born in "Perfect obdience/submission to God"

The trees, birds, planets, stars etc are all in "submission to the Lord of Abraham" which is the definition of a Muslim.

When we do not recognize our lord and submit to him then we are even lower than the cattle......... since they are in full obediance to him.

To accept Islam is not conversion…….. it is reversion to our original state of obedience since every child is born in total obediance to their true "nature" which is submission to all the instinctual/natural laws of God.

Reversion to Islam is to join the faith and family that started at the time of Adam.

Even those born with Muslim names must “revert” to Islam through their actions. A revert freely accepts Islam by ridding themselves of un-Islamic customs and un-islamic practices such as honor killings, terrorism, female genital mutilation, and any other non Shariah customs or culture.
