So, I am interested in teaching myself guitar, my dad passed way in febuarty,a nd so, my mom is going to sell his guitar unless we find some good use for it, and my dad loved his lectric guitar. so I said I'd take it and learnh ow to play, she is skeptical, but I want too, any adivce? Good programs? thanks! I know nothing about guitars, but it's a G&L guitar, is this a good brand of guitar?

I am in the process of teaching myself guitar, too. The program I'm using is called "fret to fret", and so far, I'm doing well. I've been working with it for about two weeks, it shouldn't take that long but I don't have a lot of free time to devote to it, unfortunately. :/

Also get yourself a begining guitar book that has folk tunes that you can use for practice when you master fingering the chords. If you really want to be successful at playing, consider getting a teacher.

your dad played, hopefully he passed on the gene, never heard of a g&l but it shouldent stop you from playing it, go for it have some fun!!!

I would recomend learning the chords first and then just look up tabs to songs you like. http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/
