1 year in the Navy, received honorable discharge (without need to fight for), re4 code, mental/physical condition (non disability). Was told it was because I have ADHD but I have a feeling it may have been for other reasons.

RE4 means that you ineligible for reenlistment.
The RE stands for reenlistment the number has the meaning.
Your actual discharge should explain why. Was it Honorable or General under honorable conditions? It maks a difference.

RE4 means (never) eligible for reenlistment so if you want back into the military service in the future, forget about it it is never going to happen. You can appeal this until you turn blue and it will stay just as it is and RE4. Medical/physical discharges can be anything in the world but it seems like a really lame thing to say you were discharged for since you can treat that condition with drugs. Why would you not know the exact reason you got kicked out of the Navy??? Tell the truth if you want us to help you. You will have issues getting a job anywhere since you only did one year of service and they employers will want ot know what happened. You can tell them anything you want but chances are the real companies will not believe anything you say and you won't get a job. Unless you were wounded in action or something employers have a hard time believing you got out after just one year because you couldn't sit still and concentrate on your job (ADHD). Yes you will have issues, these and many more.

You were discharged for a disqualifying condition which existed prior to your entry and was not aggravated by service. This was done in accordance with Bumed Instruction 1910.3 Series.
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is identified as disqualifying in Army Regulation 40-501:Standards of Medical Fitness in paragraph 2-27(a) of that regulation which is the one used for all physical examinations for the armed forces. However, the VA does not treat ADHD or any other mood disorders, nor do they award disability pay for those types of disorders. That has been the law since the period of 1981-82.
Your re-enlistment code indicates that you cannot re-enlist in the Navy. Since your medical condition also disqualifies you from entering any other branch, your military days are over. There is no stigma to this, since the character of your discharge is honorable.

in the civilian world, this is not a bad thing necessarily. you will still be able to get most federal jobs as long as you otherwise qualify. however, your chances of ever getting back into the military(any branch) are about Zero.

ADHD requiring Meds IS a DQ for enlistment and retention. they cannot ever promise that you will have steady access to the meds and therefore cannot take the risk that you would be unable to fulfill your duties if you were off of them. Getting somebody killed because you couldn't focus would make you fell pretty lousy, I would hope.

This should only affect you if you wanted to go back in. Unless it was dishonorable, it shouldn't affect any vet benefits.
