My mom is on the phone, screaming at the top of her lungs at her mother. From the sounds of it, it's something about how my grandmother got someone to call my mom and tell my mother to call my grandmother more often. She's been screaming for five minutes. It is ringing in my ears. Even if you plug your ears, you can still hear her at yelling volumes and it rings in your ears. My special-needs brother is sitting right next to her and is crying because he thinks she's yelling at him, plus it must hurt his ears. I tried to get him to move, but he doesn't do anything. My mom won't stop, even when I say "You're sitting right next to Daniel."
It's SO annoying and it's over something so stupid. She's ranting and she's even cursing a little.
Any tips?

It's been going on for 5 minutes and will go on for an hour if nothing is done to stop it.

I don't want to trasfer her anger onto me. And my brother won't move, he'll just sit there and cry and scream.

My mom is not the rational kind. Everytime you say anything about her behavior, she takes it personally and starts screaming at you.

What kind of special needs has your brother got? Is he in a wheelchair? If not, pick him up and carry him out the room. Close the door so he can't hear your mum screaming and put the T.V or some music he likes on. Reassure him and then when your mum gets off the phone tell her how stupid she acted and how much it upset you and your brother.

If you have a cell phone, call your grandmother and tell her to hang up on your mother.
If you don't, simply unplug the phone from the electrical outlet. Wireless phones stop working when the main device is not plugged in.
Then, if she turns her rage onto you, give her a kiss, grab your brother by the arm and run!

say
mom stop being so dramatic
that you should email your mom about it
so its private and no one else has to hear it
and you wont run up the phone bill:]
or just say someone important said to call back asap. just to give her a reason to get off the phone.
or play a game with your brother.
wait, whats the problem here?
your brother?
mom being loud?
cursing?
worried about your relationship with your grandma?
or just felt like posting a random question?

When she finally gets off the phone and after she cools off, talk to her about it. She needs to calm down at situations like that, especially if you have a special needs child. Cheer Daniel up and make sure your mom is okay.
(sorry, not much help...)

she probably has other problems on her mind and is upset and finally found the chance to take it out on someone, her mom. i'm sorry this is happening, try and get your brother out of the room and tell him shes not mad at him. maybe, at the most HE will calm down.

I'm sorry, that sucks tha tyour mom doesn't know how to control herself. But the good news is you can learn from her mistakes. Just take care of yourself and your brother as much as you can.

Can your brother be picked up and moved? Or will that cause harm to him? That's most likely all you can do. But after wards Maybe you can approach her about what is happening and what it caused.

Call adult protective services in order to protect your grandma. They will put your mom into counselling.
