I have many of my own, which I will state at the end of this question, but I would like to know why others believe in God. We were talking about this in my religion class today and I thought it was really interesting. Star if you like!

Because I was witness to a miracle. Much to long to post here. I love Him because He first loved me.

A well researched, biblical and logical explanations taken from Awake magazines published by the Jehovah's Witnesses.

-A watch has an intelligent maker. Would not the heavenly bodies by which the watch is set also have a Maker?

A watch obviously was made by an intelligent person. Yet men set their timepieces on earth by the impressive heavenly bodies. Their regularity, also the vibrations of certain atoms on this earth, allow man today to adjust his clocks to within very tiny fractions of a second. Would not this superb design in creation also indicate intelligence? And have you ever known intelligence to exist apart from personality? So, you see, the law of cause and effect compels us to conclude that creation testifies to the existence of an Intelligent Person as its Maker—God.

-Belief in God is also necessary to explain conscience in man. Why do we say that?

Wherever and whenever men have lived, there has been an inborn sense of right and wrong, also sometimes called moral law or natural law, to guide their actions. From where did this universal natural law, moral law or law of the conscience come? Do you know of any law that does not have a lawmaker? Further, is it not reasonable that an outstandingly moral Person must be the Maker of a natural law that has worked for the obvious good and even preservation of all human society? That moral Person is God.

-The Bible, too, is proof that God exists. How is that?

Much of the Bible contains detailed prophecies or predictions. If there is no God, how can these be explained? A case in point: How could the Bible have foretold hundreds of years in advance where Jesus would be born? (Mic. 5:2; Matt. 2:1-6) His family line? (Gen. 22:15-18; 49:10; 2 Sam. 7:8-16; Matt. 1:1, 2, 6) When he would appear as Messiah? (Dan. 9:24-27) Certainly Jesus himself could do very little to control these factors. Yet these and hundreds of other prophecies of this nature in the Bible came true. How could this be—unless there is a farseeing God? No man has such ability to peer into the future.

-Further, what the Bible does for people who actually apply its principles proves there is a God.

-Truth-loving persons will find, as have Jehovah’s witnesses, another persuasive argument that serves to convince them that there is a God. What is that?

Only a belief in God allows for human life to have a satisfying purpose.

But, you might reason, ‘How can that be? Has not God been responsible for death and suffering? What “satisfying purpose” does that give life?’

Well, did you know that the Bible does not teach that God is responsible for suffering and death? Quite the contrary, in its opening book the Bible shows that man has brought suffering and death on himself. Further, the Bible shows that rather than allow present wicked conditions like these to continue, God will shortly end them and restore paradise to this earth. Most of those who have died will be brought back to life by a resurrection. But, only a belief in God makes such a heart-cheering understanding possible.—Gen. 3:3, 17-19; Eccl. 7:29; John 5:28, 29; Rev. 21:3, 4.

On the other hand, suppose you do not believe in God? Can you see a purpose behind the thousands of years of wickedness and offer any satisfying explanation for it? Suppose your child’s grandmother or a youthful schoolmate dies. Can you convincingly explain to your child why death exists at all?

I took the usual apologetics course, but the question for me was, "Is God answering my prayers?" In high school he did not seem to be, so I became an atheist. But all my friends were practicing Christians, so I couldn't escape the questions that pounded on my brain. Finally, the hound of heaven tracked me down. I then went somewhat overboard in an unbalanced way for a layperson in the practice of religion. Now I have matured into a very practical way of serving others.

His Word, His wisdom, and His love.

Then look at reality.

The proof and evidence is all around you and everywhere, undeniable proof, and indisputable visible evidence. It is called creation and life. Unless your are blind, deaf, and senseless. You can see, smell, taste, hear, feel, and examine the evidence.

We live on a planet teeming with life. Plant life with approximately 250,000 species, animal life with over a million species. Scientists are learning just how complex life is. So complex that it requires design. The evidence of design requires a designer. Scientists are also learning the conditions for life; just how perfect conditions here on planet Earth are to support all this life.

The human brain, it absorbs forty megabytes per second of data while awake. That is two terabytes of data a day. At night, it sorts and stores that data through the creation of new chemical bonds and synaptic connectors.
><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><>
Sure, right, this all just happened and evolved. This sort of thinking takes considerable faith, exponentially more faith than believing in a creator.

For me, I think there has to be an answer to this question: why is there something and not nothing? Why do things exist at all? Why is there not nothing? I don't think that question can be avoided. We can't just presume that things have to exist or that things have always existed and will continue to exist forever. If we do say that things have to exist, then the question has to be, why? Once you get into the idea of necessity, then God must be present because he is the only necessary being upon which all other being rests. Any being that exists, then ceases to exist like all other things in the universe can't explain their own existence. They must have received that existence from another.

That's my philosophical answer. My theological one has to do with our need for God. Only a God who cares about humans and took on our nature in order to redeem us is worthy of belief. We all know we need salvation and we also know that we can't save ourselves. We need help and we need to participate in that help.

Because I know.

This is the reason I give to skeptics: Science has proven that our bodies could have developed through natural selection. Maybe they have even found a place in the brain that could make these bodies think they have self-awareness. However, there is nothing in science to explain why I am inside this body looking out. I HAVE AWARENESS. It's not I think therefore I am. It's I am therefore I am, or I'm aware therefore I am.

Those of you that wrote a 5000 word answer: only those that believe are going to read that. You're preaching to the choir. And you almost crashed my computer. Which has 2GB of RAM.

Well, I use to be an active drug user who was losing all three kids to the State and was going no where in my life. Then, with the help of a fellowship I was shown spirituality which then lead me to God. See, I true believe in my heart that God saved me from me. He saved me from a life misery. My children from a life of misery. And all I have to do was ask for his help. Today thank God, I have almost 5 yrs clean and sober.

my goodness did someone write a book???
I feel him touch my soul with his spirit. I see him in the eyes of children. When I got saved I had never had such a peace come over me and change the way my life was. It was practically effortless on my part. All I had to do was pray.
