The grace of Christ is sufficient for all. Those who die as children or who never mature emotionally enough to understand the difference between good and evil will not be held accountable for their actions.

Contrary to popular belief in todays church the bible does NOT teach what the main stream calls "The age of accountability" It does however teach of an accountable age, That accountable age is defferent in every person. It is not a "set" age of 12 as some teach. The age comes when a person is able to understand sin, right from wrong, That they have diobeyed God, and the ability to understand the penalties of those actions. suffice to say a person who is mentally retarded may never reach a level of understanding required to be held accountable for thier actions, by man or by God. God holds those people as inocent just like little babies and children who have not yet achieved a level of understanding to be held accoutable.

You mean retarded as in somebody with an uderdeveloped brain? Like a fourty year old with the mind of a seven year old. well in that case they are considered like a child (not to be treated like a child, but in regards of liability for sin); the following have no sin: "The pen is raised for three (meaning: there is no obligation upon three): one who is sleeping until he awakens, the child until he becomes an adult, and one who is insane until he becomes sane." God knows best. I hope I answered your question!

They go to heaven because unbelief is the sin that will cause separation from God for eternity and the retarded person like little children do not rebel against God by unbelief. They do not have the capacity to choose to reject God.

I learned a long time ago that people go to hell not for not accepting Christ but for rejecting him. If a mentally handicapped person can't make that choice, then they certainly will go to heaven.

I would think heaven. Give God more credit than that why would He be so cruel? To answer a question with a question, "Why do people think that God is cruel?" Arn't Christians always telling everyone that God is love....

Romans 5:12-21 teaches that in Adam we all are under condemnation for Adam’s one act of disobedience. By nature all human beings, including infants and retarded people (developmentally deficient adults), are sinners in Adam and in themselves, and as such we all deserve the wrath and curse of God.
Only Elect infants, dying in infancy, and elect retarded people who are incapable of being outwardly called by the ministry of the Word, are regenerated, and saved by Christ, through the Spirit, who works when, and where, and how He pleases.

The Bible states that the road is so simple that they can understand it, so it is the same for them, to repent and ask forgiveness for their sins, give their hearts and lives to Jesus

Salvation is a choice that is decided with the heart not the mind. Anyone can choose salvation no matter what their mental state is.
