He told the rich young ruler to sell everything, and give the proceeds to the poor (but that young man was unwilling to do so).

Televangelists are preaching a false gospel of prosperity. They often cite John 10,10 to support their teaching but that verse is not talking about material abundance. Jesus never preached a gospel of prosperity. What he taught was what you said. A life of self-sacrifice and service to others. Jesus said, "if anyone wants to follow me he should deny himself, take up his cross and follow me." The Beatitudes is the best proof that we should live a life of self-denial and sacrifice.

My understanding is that Christ wasn't inviting him to be a deciple (however you spell it), but rather an apostle.

I believe god wants us to be rich IF we seek him first. A righteous rich man can do a lot more good than a righteous poor man.

Well... Who are you going to follow, the misbegotten, self-condemning pig that is calling himself an evangelist, or Jesus, the one who has beyond all logic shed His power to give you a choice and another chance at salvation? I'd say the "evangelist" can go to Hell without me!

I wouldn't dwell on it. There are better things to think about than christian hypocrisy.

Say,what do think of that Zane Grey, terrific writer or what?

If Christianity was not such a big business then many more priests and pastors would leave their faith.
