As long as the area is sterile, and he uses new needles and stuff every time I don't see a problem with it. Maybe you could go in and see the area that he does the tattoos before you get it done? If you doubt anything, then don't do it. Ask to see his autoclave, so you know everything is sterilized. Also ask to see spore tests from the autoclave so you know it is working.

One of my friends started doing tattoos in his basement, and now he is working in a shop. They've got to start somewhere. I have never had a problem with any tattoos he has done. Maybe the guy used to work in a shop, but had to quit for some reason, and wants to keep doing what he loves doing between jobs? You could ask him why he's tattooing from his basement rather then an actual shop.

Just make sure everything is sterile and you should be fine. If you have any specific questions on that sort of stuff feel free to send me an email.

you "guess" he has a license? hahaha...fat chance in hell he does! if he is "legal", then he should be in a shop, and never tattooing anyone under 18 unless there are both parents THERE, not on the phone. anyone can be on the other end, "playing" parent.

wait until you are 18, think long and hard about what you want, then go get it. don't get it done in someone's basement.

I highly doubt he has a valid license if he is working out of his basement. I also wouldn't trust anybody that will tattoo someone under the age of 18, regardless of your state law.

Are you willing to risk an infection or worse? I certainly hope not.

You'll be fine. It's perfectly safe. I've had somewhere around 60ish tattoos on me all from one of my friends that does them out of his bedroom. I've only done a few on myself but for the most part he's done them all and there's nothing unsanitary about it. People have been going to shops and paying way too much for so long now they just don't realize what suckers they are.

Is this guy approved by the local health dept? I'd avoid him at all costs. Every tattoo place I've been to will not tattoo anyone under the age of 18, even if they did have parental consent. Sounds shady to me.

Some places can be zoned residential/ commercial
and some basements can be made into pretty good shops. You'd have to check it out to see. Call the County Health Department, ask a few questions and see what they have to say.

yeah i really dont think thats safe. if its in his basement that doesnt sound lik the best place to do tattoos. i mean where would he sterilize his needles? u should just go get it professionally done and if ur not 18 u should really think about what ur doing. ur gunna have it on u for the rest of ur life u dont want to regret it if it turns out lik ****.

Never a good idea...if you're underage, just wait. This guy might even do somewhat decent tattoos, but that doesn't mean they are clean. When you picture a basement do you picture a sterile environment?

In his basement???? NO ITS NOT SAFE!! Do not go there. Call the cops on this guy, he should NOT be tattooing or piercing anyone.

Why not wait 5 years or so and let the urge to decorate yourself pass?

The risks are too great for the benefit you get; and if this guy's basement isn't hospital-clean it doesn't matter if he's got a license right now. Until enough people get hurt and report him, he'll still have his license.
