Volunteering in general is about matching your areas of skill to a particular service need. Are you good with htlm or computers for example? There are a lot of volunteer opportunities you could take part in then right over your computer and right from home. Do a search for "on-line volunteering."

Do you like animals? Try local animal shelters and veterinary clinics, maybe even 4H.

Do you like children? Try local shelters, orphanages, Big Brothers/Big Sisters programs.

Do you want to work with people? How about soup kitchens, homeless shelters, domestic violence shelters, etc?

I hope you find an area that interests you. Good luck!

Volunteering is about the love of people, if you have a love for people and really want to help you will find away. Your local Hospital should have a program for people your age, I volunteer at mine one day a week, there are so many different things you can do at a hospital that will make you a blessing to others. I work in the surgery waiting area, and I try to make them as comfortable as possible and help them not to worry about the upcomeing surgery. There are many different jobs besides that, you can help the dieticians to physical therepy. Its a great place to be a blessing, good luck!!

I live in a much smaller town than you, and I created my own community service. Now even prisoners or people on probation can volunteer to help with Alzheimer's patients. My group met at a local church in one of their meeting rooms. We served them a light breakfast while asking them simple questions to prompt their memories. Then we would do crafts and the volunteers would help the patients to complete their projects. In the meantime, some of the volunteers would be working in the kitchen preparing for lunch, which was usually donated by a local restaurant. We'd clean up afterwards and do their favorite: Play Bingo!

HSUS - Humane Society of the U.S. - there is a HSUS in every city! : )

Any ANIMAL shelter: there are soo many abused, abandoned and homeless pets that get DUMPED at animal shelters.. millions every year. :( These animals are just DYING for a human touch - and some love and attention.. : )

A nursing home - elderly people love having a young visistor and someone to talk to -- just go with an adult - just to be safe! : )

Soup kitchen: homeless people are very lonely and need a smiling face.. soup kitchens might be last place for you, though -- because of your age :)

Volunteering for a children's orphanage... ? Check area listings to see if there is one in your area! : )

Good luck! : )
