gays should be allowed to serve in the military, especially open about it. everyone talks about having no privacy in the military because we're deployed, well, this is my 4th deployment and each time, we had individual showers....we have separate toilets, so there is nothing too exposing. if you're one the "freaks" who are insecure about themselves then you would be able to take a shower when it is less occupied. you can jump in the shower with your clothes on and drape them over the bar before you turn the water on. we're not stuck in foxholes fighting anymore. these are new times for military personnel. gays make good troops, just like the straight troops. hell, as long as the person can shoot and watch my back not my "backside". i have known many a gay members in the military. a gay person has their own radar, they know if your straight, they won't even bother to try to get you in bed. they don't care what you look like naked. they don't even want to have sex with you. all they want is too finish their military career, get the experience they need and go to school, just like evrybody else.

Of course. Almost all military forces in the world openly recruit anyone regardless of whether or not they're gay. Why shouldn't the few stubborn countries holding out do so too?
This "Don't ask, don't tell" policy by the US Military is a joke.
"Ok, we won't prosecute you for breaking that particular clause of military law as long as you don't tell us you are. It's cool, we won't even bother checking."
It was a stupid bluff to satisfy stupid people on both sides of the argument, and seems to have worked.

No. Being openly gay in the Armed Forces is against the law.
Don't Ask Don't Tell policy allows gays to enlist, but openly gay behavior leads to a court-martial if you survive the beatings and ridicule of the soldiers around you.

I'm like the late Barry Goldwater. I don't care if a soldier is gay or straight. I just want one who can shoot straight. But, I also want one who doesn't wave his sexual orientation in my face or try to use fellatio and cunnilingus as platforms for some political activity. The only parades I want to see him in are unit parades, victory parades and veterans' day parades.
The trouble is that doesn't happen in many cases. It does turn into an "in your face" type of challenge regarding sexual orientation. And if one doesn't fully accept the validity of their argument, one is a bigot. Especially those who view it as a civil rights struggle. They lose me right there. My African-American shipmates could not do anything to change the color of their skin. But, the homosexual or lesbian on active duty can choose not to sleep with someone of the same sex.

One of the questions they use to ask you in WW2 before you were prepared and trained was "Do you like girls." lol... obviously I think you know what would happen if they didn't answer the question correctly... anyway to answer the question I really don't know... but thinking about it, seeing as there is hardly any privacy in the Armed Forces, I sure wouldn't want to be taking a shower next to a gay guy completely naked with nouthing between us... :P ....

Alright people think take a second................gay people should be allowed to serve in the armed forces, are you going to hate on them because they are gay, why they just fought for your freedom, now take another second..........is a straight who died for their country not the same as a gay person who died for their country, and now the biggest question take a minute for this one.......... ........ ......... why is it that most people who say that they dont want gays in the armed forces are not in the military or have a back office job, its because the gays are deployed doing the real work the ones who allow them to sleep safe in the u.s.

Gays should serve, but not openly.
This is not only about gay rights.
This has to do with the rights of other people.
If gay's serve openly in the military, then the lack of privacy that occurs in the nomal course of military service becomes, automatically, sexual in nature.
We do not expect women to face exposure to sexual situations in the military and so we take steps to protect them and separate them from compromising situations.
When a man is openly gay, the soldiers serving with him are constantly having to concern themselves with the sexual aspects of their situation, instead of focusing on the mission.
This is why women do not serve in combat roles.
For safety, we can have one gender serving in a unit, in combat.
Having someone that considers his fellow soldiers to be sexual objects defeats the purpose of the unit.
If gay's want to serve, let them serve as soldiers and leave their sexual nature for their private life.
It is only that some gays insist on forcing their lifestyle on others, that we even have an issue.

tough question and tough to answer.i believe those who are gay are capable of doing a good job in the military. there is a lot of misunderstanding that scares people. i was one, that didn't understand. i believe differently now.to serve openly can be harmful cause people are closed minded. i don't know how to answer.

Gay are allowed to serve, but don't ask-don't tell needs to be removed. If a person is willing to serve their country and is willing to die for it, then who they love shouldn't matter- the fact that they can love is more important to me.
