Magnesium deficiency sweetie ....... Magnesium is essential for effective nerve and muscle functioning. When we are deficient our bodies will simply leach it from our bones causing the muscular twitching and cramping you are experiencing. Eat more foods rich in this mineral (known as the anti stress mineral).
ie: nuts and seeds, wholegrains and cereals, cold water fishes such as tuna, sardines, salmon and whiting.

***EDIT**** I just realised, sorry, when your potassium/sodium balance if off kilter your nerve and muscle function will suffer soooooo....... add some iodized salt to your food and notice the difference. ♥♥♥

It may be: 1. that you are not getting enough potassium; 2. that you have restless leg syndrome; or 3. if you are drinking a lot of water or fluid, get a blood test for diabetes or hypoglycemia. I find that when my sugar is off, restless leg syndrome occurs more often, and it occurs during the day and night.

You might have RLS restless leg syndrome look it up on the internet. Or, you might need to drink more water and gatorade you may be experiencing low electrolytes. Maybe you have a few varicose veins, stretching would help before bed and when you wake up. Also, I wouldnt take any postassium unless you talk to your Doctor first sometimes taking any additional supplement could effect you in a different way and might not be what you need, in any case talk to your doctor first.

Stretch thoroughly before and after exercising, drink plenty of fluids, and eat plenty of bananas. A lack of potassium can contribute to muscle soreness and cramps.
