If I understand correctly, your friend is keeping her distance because she feels guilty about not reciprocating your romantic feelings toward her. That's actually a point in her favor, as she doesn't want to disappoint you. She feels that letting you know before things get too out of hand, she is trying not to hurt you. I guess the best way to get over her is to start going with someone else. Things might never be the way they were before, because once friendships become one-sided love, the friendship element disappears. I wish I could be more encouraging, but I've seen this happen many times. You're hurting now, but you'd hurt even more if you were to start seeing her again, strictly on a friendship basis. It just wouldn't work. My advice is to find someone who will share your feelings. It saves a lot of heartache and confusion, and will bring you mutual love and joy in the long run. Good luck!

ok this may sound a little strange, but I was in the same situation with a guy.......I started looking for things that I didn't like about him, and for reasons why we wouldn't get along../it was kind of hard at first but it actually worked. I realized there really were things about him that as much as I loved him - there was no way we could have had a LTR. I still love him - but as a friend and somebody I care about. Sometimes, it just takes time.
Find things to do that will help you meet new people and look for interesting people to become friends with - Doesn't mean you have to forget about her tho.

I have never seen this work out unless you can control your own feelings and emotions. Otherwise, you need to move on. The worst thing about opposite sex friendships is usually one of them is waiting in the wings, hoping the other will someday become attractive. Be a man, realize its a lost cause, and move on. Make friends with some guys that can be your buddies for life and start DATING attractive women that you want for romance. You cant get a good friendship out of a girl unless you grew up with her and YOU view her like a sister. Quit being pathetic and realize this fact and move on.
