I asked a similar question about sexual protection. To all of those opposed to stem cell research for religious reasons, do you believe that it is an evil scheme of the devil? If not, what is it?

gwhiz- that's the most ridiculous statement i've ever heard! first, it's not murder because they're not people. second, it's not for their personal gain, it's to cure disease and make the world a better place. you're a sick human being

Hello- calling scientists working to make all of our lives better "brutal murderers" isn't "very nice" either. I could care less if I hurt her or your feelings. If you're so upset, maybe you should report it.

Not all stem cell research involves embryonic stem cells. Unfortunately, say the words stem cell research to some people and they start ranting about killing babies. I believe the cure for many diseases including Cystic Fibrosis, which is what my son has and will ultimately die from if a cure is not found, depends heavily on stem cell research. But you will always have fanatics against it. There was a group that torched a field of genetically modified corn that was being used in a study to help Cystic Fibrosis patients, simply because they were against the genetic modification of corn. How many lives did they cost, how many lives could have been helped with this research. But if you and yours are healthy its easy to preach against science. Just don't do it in my face.

Most Of The Negative Press About Stem Cell Research Is
Promoted By The 'Religious Right' To "DEMONIZE" Science. Which They View As Anti-God Because It Teaches 'Evolution' Instead Of Creationism, Which They Believe Is The Root Cause Of Much Of The 'Moral Decay' Today, Including the High Divorce Rate, Sex Education, Homosexual Marriage, Etc.

Distinctions have to be made between adult stem cell research and embryonic stem cell research. No one opposes adult stem cell research, and a great many cures have been found using them.

However, there is opposition to embryonic stem cell research because many believe that life begins at conception and using tiny humans for such experimentation is immoral. Now, a person might argue that such a tiny life is not a person. Both positions require belief, since science cannot tell us what a person is - that's a philosophical and theological position. In the absence of a definitive answer, I think we need to err on the side of caution and not engage in embryonic stem cell research.

No, I don't think it is necessarily the work of Satan. People engage in the practice in good faith, though I think they are mistaken. Any sin is the work of Satan, and everyone sins, even Christians.

Depends on the time, I should think. Stem cells are typically only harvested when the embryo numbers only a few hundred cells and cannot be considered a living human entity by any sane person. "let's get this strait. they want to make babies to destroy for research and development. what next, grow full humans for their organs and body parts? i say NO! god says NO!" Amazing how you go from "Let's get this straight" to ranting idiocy in less than three sentences. They don't "want to make babies to destroy". They use the cells of leftover embryos from in-vitro procedures. You see, if in-vitro fertilization is attempted, more embryos are created than will ultimately be used in case some of them are non-viable. The remaining embryos would be destroyed if they were not used for stem cell research. I call them 'embryos', but they are literally just microscopic discs of undifferentiated tissue at this time. They don't look cute or human at all - even you would feel nothing towards them.

Not at all, but I believe that the stopping of stem cell research is actually working against humanity.

I think that anything that might be able to cure a disease is a good thing. Regardless of my faith (or in this case, lack thereof) But that's my personal opinion. Also, I would think (from a theistic standpoint) anyone who thinks it IS of the Devil, or just for selfish gain (such as one particular person who answered it so far) is either working for their "devil" or are at least a complete idiot...or maybe willfully ignorant...

Most people who are against stem cell research don't even know what a stem cell is.

I can't tell if you are for or not, but I can say this: Whomever thinks that science is the work of the Devil, they must be out of their freaking mind. If you, they, me, believe in God and believe that God has its finger in all that we do, then he's the one giving the intelligence and knowledge to all those that work in scientific fields, ergo, the Satan's work is more pedestrian. He's probably busy putting ideas of war against Iran in "Monkey President's" mind.

No, it's not. It is research that could find a cure for many, many diseases that plague people all over the world including blood disorders, diabetes, etc. It's short sighted to say that it is flat-out wrong, when it could do so much good for so many.
