Now I part to the other side because if I part it how it used to be, it looks awkward. Did parting it to one side for so long damage my hair? I'm afraid that if I keep parting my hair, both sides will turn out like that. Will it eventually, or am I just paranoid?

Constantly parting your hair in the same way "trains" your hair to lie that way. When you switch it, your hair needs some time to adjust & lie nicely.
The other thing is that you might have a cowlick that you never noticed before.
Play around w/ it & don't worry - you'll find what works for you best as you experiment.
You can also pull your hair back w/ a headband or into a loose ponytail or messy knot to hide the damaged layer of hair.

Make a ponytail more elegant by wrapping a section of hair around the elastic & securing it w/ a pin to conceal it. You can also section the ponytail and curl each section loosely to add more interest.
