I'm not a Michael Vick or nothing, but I live in a neighborhood that was pretty friendly and decent until folks started moving in with giant attack dogs around every common corner...acting like they rule the sidewalks and common areas. I can't even walk to my mailbox without being harrassed incessantly by a neighbor's Boxer. This is getting old.

Okay. If I call and talk to animal control or the police what do I say? Nothing has happened YET, but I'm sure it will soon. We own plenty of weapons, but I don't like walking out with a loaded pistol in a neighborhood with lots of small children. On that same token, people should not have vicious attack dogs that are unsocialized in a neighborhood with lots of small children.

I don't know what they cost, but the most menacing looking dog you will ever see is an English mastiff.

If you do this, you are only ADDING to the problem. What do you think will happen when your dog meets the other? Doesn't matter how big or "menacing" your dog looks...do you really think the neighbor's dog will care? Its a fight waiting to happen. Please be responsible and talk to either your neighbor about this, or the police.

ADD: Tell them the same thing you just told us. Walk around with a gun??? What are you gonna do? SHOOT the dog? How do you even know the dog is going to do anything? Do you even know for SURE the dog is aggressive? Has it gone after you? If it has, again, go to the police. If it hasn't, I think maybe your the one with the problem here.......

ADD: Also, what happens if you get an "aggressive" dog yourself and can't control him?(since it sounds that you don't even know what your doing in the first place) What if your dog becomes the menace in the neighborhood, gets loose, and hurts someone? Just wondering......

"I can't even walk to my mailbox without being harrassed incessantly by a neighbor's Boxer. "

Then call the police. Don't buy a dog that you only want "because it looks menacing". Looks are NOT a reason to buy a dog. They are living creatures with personalities, not a pair of shoes or a furry yard ornament.

(To the person who recommended a Fila - you are an idiot and I'm guessing you've never met a real Fila in your life and you have no clue what ojeriza means.)

So you are going to retaliate by getting a "menacing" dog? Sounds intelligent. They have dogs who may or may not be aggressive towards other dogs so you are going to get a dog that may or may not be aggressive towards dogs. Yup, sounds like a dog fight waiting to happen. If they bother you that much call and talk to the authorities. Explain what's going on without making a big deal about the breeds involved.

Don't get a big or mean looking dog just for effect. It's not up to you to deal with these "unfriendly" neighbors moving in. Look around at local animal shelters. There are plenty of dogs that need a home. Please, don't get a dog for the wrong reasons.

So what is a dog going to do for you?? You walk out to the mailbox with your dog and what.. Your dog and the neighbour dogs fight it out every day?? This doesn't sound like a good idea at all.

Get a can of pepper spray for the menacing dogs.
You do not want to start a dog fight and without proper training your dog could be more of a problem that you can deal with.

You are calling a Boxer a "giant attack dog". Haha, sorry I don't mean to laugh!!!

If you are concerned about your safety call the police or animal control. Do you really think it is smart to potentially start a dog fight?

It sounds to me like you are afraid of dogs. I have never heard anyone call Boxers "big attack dogs". They are big, playful goofs. Maybe instead of trying to start dog fights, you should try to meet your neighbors dogs, so they know who you are and then possibly you won't feel so intimidated by them.
