I have been with my girlfriend for just under 3 months. However, we live about three hours apart and only have time to visit each other on weekends. We take turns traveling to see each other and have been together all but one weekend. Lately she has been wanting to go back home earlier and earlier.
When she got home this past weekend, she called and claimed that she needed some time to herself for the next weekend and then she would be seeing her best friend the following weekend. This means I won't see her for 3 weeks. I asked her if everything was ok but she claims that it is a girl-thing and she just needs some "me-time".
I don't mean to sound selfish, but I barely see her now and she has 5 days each week to do whatever she wants without me. This is my first long distance relationship...in fact it's my first serious relationship (at age 24). Is this need for "me-time" normal in a long distance relationship?

It could be. I did a long distance relationship, 2-3 hours apart, throughout college. We usually saw each other every other weekend or so. It is draining to travel so much all the time, so it is quite possible she needs a break from the travel. Or maybe she feels like she has no time on the weekends to do shopping or housework or anything else.

Or, the stress of long distance is too much for a relatively new relationship. The only to find out is to talk to her, and find out just what she needs me time for.

It's normal in regular relationships. You can't expect her to put the rest of her life on hold for you every single weekend. She's got friends and family too. If you are suspicious that she's fooling around, just ask her next time you see her. And the other five days of the week she's got to work or go to class and then she's got household responsibilities or homework.
