It often happens doesn't it? my most recent experience was in Tenerife(I think you know where that is , don't you, Bex!?)
We went for a drink and the owner, recognising my other half's Welsh accent, says that her sister lives in Wales in a village called LLany.............. Oh! yes , I know her, he said- she runs our local bread shop.
Also strolling along the coast, trying to avoid the time-share touts, one calls out to us"Where are you from? -you sound as though it's South Wales" yes that's right , we said. His uncle lives 4 doors away and we passed his mobile number to his uncle. It turns out that he'd left home 10 years before after a family row and not contacted anyone since -they've all made up now !
My son-in-law had a delivery to make in N.Yorks in his lorry. He had a meal in a pub and a man, noticing his accent said to him"don't suppose you know Jonesey?" S-I-L said"Jonesey in Wales -are you kidding ?!-there's thousands!" -but , 30years ago this man had left his wife and moved away but through my S-I-L the man in the pub and Jonesey were reunited because Jonesey was the same man who lives 4 doors from me !

YES! Want a story? Today, like always, I went over to the house of the mother of the people I nanny for (the little girl is sixteen months old) to let out her dog while she was away. And while I am there, my truck battery dies. CRAP. So I decide that the church I work at on Sundays is not so far away and I can walk there with the little girl in her stroller. And we walk about ten houses and I see a name on a mailbox of someone I know through another friend. So I chance that it is the same people (not a terribly common name, but not rare either) and it is (and they are home).

So I ask if they know anyone who can jump my car...and they call the church to see if someone has a battery powerful enough. And who shows up but the woman I worked for back when I did my childcare internship. And she jumps my car. I leave and go right to the auto parts shop to get a new battery. And who do I see there? The daughter of the people whose house I found on my way to the church. I finally get my battery replaced and realize that I had said I would pick up milk for the little girl while we were out today (and she was out). So I think I will really quick run into Wal-mart to grab it. While I am in there, I see the neighbor of the people I work for, who knows the child and she is a person who never stops talking....needless to say, some of the time running into people you know can be a godsend, and sometimes not!

Well it is not always a coincidence (don't like that word as nothing is a coincidence!) as there are often reasons why we bump into people as Nanny Chris's stories prove. There are other forces at work to bring people together and resolve issues. Also, our thoughts are projected out there in the big wide world and are picked up unconciously by other people's thoughts (good reason to always have positive ones!) especially when we are in need. Often an end product of this is being in the right place at the right time - not coincidence.

Tell me about it. I have two instances of discovering it's a small world:

I'm from Washington State. When I was living in Oklahoma, we got a new manager at the place I worked. He and I got to talking, and it turned out that he was from Tacoma (my home town), and we knew each other by reputation. He had played Riff Raff several times at Rocky (the Rocky Horror Picture Show), which I had attended religiously for a few years. As soon as I told him what my name was at Rocky, he knew who I was. It was pretty funny.

More recently (about two years ago), I was at a bar in downtown Baumholder, Germany. I got to talking with a guy there, and it turned out that he was from my hometown. Soo, we started comparing lists of people we knew. It turned out (ready for this?) that he was the best friend of my best friend's ex-wife's brother.

Small world? OH yeah!

It sure is...Even if I don't know the people personally...I'm always amazed when I'm abroad and meets someone from my neighbourhood.
I have met people in Ghana and Spain. last year in Morocco, an Indian family came over and introduced themselves. Turned out that they lived a couple of streets from us and recognised us.
