Ginger, My 3 year old retriever is seemingly a healthy and happy dog. She's always full of energy and loves to play kong with me any chance she gets. However, I have always noticed her tendency to move very slowly when taking big steps up (i.e. coming up on a bed or a couch, getting into the car. She doesn't have a problem with stairs though and runs up them at the speed of light) when she takes her time I can see her back legs quiver a little bit. This has been happening since I got her when she was 2 months old. I was wondering if anyone could help me with this: is it that she is just being cautious or is this a preview of a problem to come? Is there anything I can do to help my best fuzzy friend?

Thanks to anyone who offers me some help

If it was my dog, I would have hips and knees x-rayed and evaluated. Knowing if there is a problem can help treat it in the long run.

what is happened is that the golden retriever for centuries has been known to have a birth defect that every 1 out of 7 have weak hind legs. But if this is becoming more frequent i believe your dog only has the birth defect and should check with the vet
