I don't know why it happens but it does. And then you either snore, or you can't breathe well and can't sleep.

Since it's not as bad when you sit up, try either a couple of extra pillows or putting a brick under the top two legs of your bed.

Consider that your nose may be getting stuffy not because of your position, but because you're allergic to your bed and bedding (dust mites?).

Last comment: Flonase (rx) is a very effective product for dealing with allergies and stuffy noses. It coats the inside of your nose with a teflon-like stuff, so no irritants are allowed to irritate your nose or sinus. And it's cheap. I pay $1.59 on my plan (30 days). Wal-Mart sells the generic for $4.

OMG!!! Yes! I have chronic sinusitis and I have the same problem it is horrible! It is possible you may have a deviated septum. They can do x-rays for all that stuff that is how they diagnosed me. Do you get headaches, bad breath, a sore face? It's all sinus related stuff and the list can go on and on......Anyway, I find Otrivin helps but only for a short period of time. Have your Doc. refer you to an ear nose and throat specialist! Hope this helps a bit.
