I sometimes go through these phases where I have dizzy spells and I panic because of them I havent yet passed out because of 1,I have been to see a doctor about it but the doctor looked at me like I was on some sort of drug and put it down as stress this has been happening since I was about 7-8yrs old, sometimes they just happen out of the ordinary but other times they are brought on by bouncing things (balls)or turning things (like wheels etc)or even things that may sway from side to side (swings, water etc)Im more annoyed by it than anything else because it stops me from being socialable,I try to fight it by ignoring things that bring it on. Can some1 shed some light on this please,as I am concerned because I have a 9yr old daughter and dont want her growing up going through the same thing!

Panic attacks are very real! They can cause a whole list of symptoms and being dizzy is one of them. And whack husband along side the head and tell him to get a grip. There are a host of problems that can cause panic attacks and panic attacks are very real and not something that most people can just "get over". Go to your family doctor and have a good thorough physical if you haven't had one in awhile. Have the doctor check your ears, sinus area, run some blood tests especially thyroid. Any medical condition that can disrupt the chemical balance of the body/brain can cause panic attacks. Once any physical issues are ruled out, ask for a referral to a psychiatrist. Family or general doctors do not have the education, knowledge or expertise to properly administer medications that can help you deal with your panic attacks. The psychiatrist is the best one for this. They are schooled in how ALL medications react with the brain and emotions and will work with you in finding a medication that can help you deal. No, you don't have to lay on the funny looking sofa and talk about how you hated your Aunt Sophie. Medication management is the largest part of their duties! Many drugs that are commonly prescribed for other issues can make panic worse! He/she will know what those are. And if you don't get a good fit with the doctor you are referred to, find another one and keep looking until you find a psych that you do like. And panic has nothing to do with going "crazy". It indicates a real medical problem that needs addressed. This all in your head thinking when out with the dark ages and mental issues are just as real and treatable as high blood pressure and ulcers. That's why I said to tell hubby to get a grip; he's certainly not helping the situation and if his attitude is bad on all fronts could be adding significantly to the problem. And if the psych suggests (or you can suggest it) behavioral modification counseling, go for it. It may or may not help but you will learn things about your panic that will help you come to terms with it and make it easier to deal. They teach a lot of relaxation techniques, ways to change your thinking about it and it is a worth while process. Good Luck!
